Since this was from a year ago, I'd like to re-ask the question. Is ZC safe short term? I'm doing it for a week, now I have one more thing to stress about. I can't stress out over everything people, I need something to eat damn it!

Hard to believe I'd do irreversible damage in such a short time, but as usual, I read way too much on the stuff.

@Mambo: As far as I can tell, "glucose deficiency" is just something Paul Jaminet made-up in order to sell a diet book. He may be right, but there's no evidence for it.

Nah, you're falling into the trap of thinking that ZC is ok for everyone. It isn't. The "low carb flu" that you think other people are suffering is really from glucose deficiency, not from the failure of implementation. You need to stop thinking in terms of one-size fits all diet. Not everyone can wear the same ZC hat.

I took to it like a fish to water as they say... the moment I started eating fatty meat, I felt as if an unholy shroud had been pulled from my body. I was not dead, I was finally alive. I can't explain it any other way. Fatty meat and nothing else saved my life.

In all seriousness though, did it take a bit for your body to adjust. I've been feeling kind of wonky all day today. A little nauseated too. Not, "Ohmygawdgonnathrowupnow!" nauseous, but yeah.

So what you're saying...is I've been ZC my entire life? *How's that for a positive play on words* :)

I have been ZC (essentially, very small deviations now and then mostly consisting of non starchy veggies if I'm eating out) for four years. I'm healthy, strong, funny, smart, and can kick ass!

I think my diet would be classed as ZC but I did have 5 cherries and 1 very small strawberry on Wednesday and 3 cherries and 4 small strawberries on Thursday. It was the first carbs/fruit that I have had since last Summer but I hardly ate any fruit or carbs at all last year and anyway. I don't seem to need them.

I really don't understand why people want to jump head long into diet changes? I would suggest that you cut the carbs very gradually. It's so much easier that way. That's all I did and every time I cut them a little more, I always noticed an improvement. You are not me though so you might not feel as good on ZC. You may get to a point where you are not quite ZC but really feel like you need a little more carbs so back up to where you feel good.

There isn't any evidence that it's harmful long-term, much less for a week.

For most people, though, a week isn't long enough to get over the carb-flu, so you'll probably feel a little wonky for the duration.
