Popcorn reaction???

So last night I had some popcorn, roughly a cup and a half. It was a light cinnamon type. No dairy. The thing is this morning I had a good amount of energy at the gym (this is after 10-11 hr fast which is typical). I do tend to eat VLC so maybe the carbs might have done this. The one thing I noticed though is I was hungry after my workout which is different because I do IF and usually don't get a wince of an appetite until the beginning of my eating window at 1pm. But it was nice to have a little crunch and I slept great, also my constipation seemed to vanish this morning. So to some it up

  1. Why would the popcorn cause this boost in energy, even though I feel better on a VLC diet?

  2. Why the random appetite increase?

  3. If I were to have a small serving before bed each night, how much effect will it have on a low carb diet and fat loss?

I don't believe there is any GMO popcorn yet. Not enough being grown to warrant the investment.

Whether it's bad or not is up for you to decide. But eating grains means you're not "eating 100% paleo" by any stretch of the imagination. Many people are fine on grains and I don't judge. But it ain't paleo.

I agree but if I spend the whole day eating 100% paleo would a cup or two of the stuff be that bad?

I was saying if it had any of that powdered cheese crap. It came from a bag and it was corn, palm oil, salt, cinnamon. I was worried because I know corn can cause a cascade of insulin.

Just an opinion here, not an answer, but I'm not so sure that eating grains is the best way to get the long term effects you want (or the answers you want, on a paleo forum).

Microwave popcorn, unless you can find an organic brand, is likely GMO. If you are going to eat popcorn, pop organic kernels yourself in some coconut oil or ghee, then dust with cinnamon. A much better option for an occasional treat!

I found that I lost more weight when I consumed around 100g of carbs per day, but I was unable to control my glucose levels. I had to dial it back down to below 50. I continued losing weight, at a slower rate, but could maintain control over my glucose levels.

You can test your body's reaction to an increase in carbs by adding a sweet potato post workout, even white potato if you prefer. You can even get the crunch you mentioned if you slice the potato thin, brush it with coconut oil, sprinkle with salt, then bake. I find that if I eat carbs before bed, I am hungrier the next morning.

first off, since when does popcorn have dairy?!?! confused. second, is this microwave "light" stuff pumped with chemicals!? get rid of that! pop your own kernels in coconut oil.

my opinion 1- boost came from the extra glycogen store from the carbs 2- carbs release lower levels of appetite-suppressing hormones...why people tend to not feel as satiated when they eat carbs (mainly crap carbs) 3- you're on VLC which means small serving would have minimal impact (although check carb/calorie content) and might actually help with workouts. personally, i was not performing well with my activities on LC so i've increased it, feel more satisfied AND satiated and have WAY more energy. to each there own. and of course depends on your weight loss target...i'm just looking to maintain but lose a bit of fat/gain muscle.
