Paleo Candy Jar?

Answered on August 19, 2014

I have a co-worker with a candy jar that she brought into the office and she's never put anything in it. I thought it would be nice to put something OTHER than candy in it, but I can't think of anything good enough. I guess I could put marbles or something, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of a paleo snack that would hold up over time.

I'd love to put little jerky bites in it, but I don't know how long they would last before going bad. Any other ideas?

As an update, I've been puttin a quarter in the jar for each person that goes with me for my daily walk. When we get enough, we'll all go out to lunch, and I get to pick! So far, so good. Thatnks for the inspiration, sage!

Not a bad idea. I think I might make a modification on the basic idea and make it like a reward jar. Maybe put in a quarter everytime I can get her to go for a walk, or do something healthy. At the end of the month/quarter or whenever, use the money for a healthy lunch out or something. I keep forgetting that there are other rewards other than food!

get a small pad of paper and whenever a co-worker does something noteworthy write it down with the date, fold it up and put it in the jar. open the jar during the office holiday party and read them aloud. appreciation is good for your cortisol levels.

Dark chocolate? I mean.. the point of the candy jar is to get people to come to your desk.. to encourage communication and openness. People like candy and dark chocolate is good for you.

I have a candy machine on my desk. Since I started following the paleo diet, I have obstained from candy but I encourage people to put whatever they want in it. Sometimes it will have M&Ms (which I don't like) and the next time it may have jelly beans (which I can avoid). The only time I struggle is when it has Skittles or Reese's Pieces in it...then I just have to use ALL my will power not to indulge. When I do want a little something sweet, I have found a great organic 70% dark chocolate that I will have a small nibble on. Why should my diet choices ruin everyone elses sugar tooth? :)
