Women - how do you feel about the C word?

Like most people who peruse this site I frequent a variety of diet and health related blogs. As with any human endeavor, especially one that takes place on the interwebs, I understand that anything I read is heavily influenced by the persona and attitude of the original writer and that I have visited of my own volition. That being said, I think everyone will agree that ???Paleo??? is primarily male dominated. When frequenting one of my favorite blogs today I saw posts (tweets) that another prominent blogger had made where he used a word that I think should be noted. I don???t want some BS apology, or to cry about how un-PC it was and demand retraction etc. What I DO want is to point out is that even though I support everyone having the right to post/tweet/say any word they want whenever they want - when a man freely uses that word (and especially to purposely demean a woman), in my personal experience, it reveals how he really feels about women. We can take power away from hateful words ??? however that one undoubtedly still has it, and when someone uses it in that public a capacity and in that manner it reveals more about them then I think they realize. Am I the only one who was insulted by this? Or am I just getting my period and should shut up and have more babies?

Yeah, not exactly a PH question, however, if you use the D-word (rhymes with stick) to describe a man, you really can't be squeamish about using the C-word for women. I tend to believe that calling names is silly, childish, and (per Twain) shows a lack of imagination. If it bothers you that much, walk away.

Now I'm curious. Can you post a link to this controversy?

Just remember, he demeans himself when he talks like that, not the person he's speaking to. "But the things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and those things defile a man." Mat 15:18

And I don't know about the paleo world in general, but this site certainly isn't male-dominated.

Well, aren't you glad that you got a heads up on what kind of person that blogger is?

i don't approve of some of these words either, however, it is his blog, and it is a waste of your time to go around getting insulted by things you find on the internet. of course you only asked the women, which I find insulting, as if men have no sensitivity to these things?

I just want to say that I really don't feel that Paleo is male dominated. I think vegetarian and veganism is heavily made up of women, but I don't think the opposite is true of Paleo. Perhaps the pie chart is a little bigger on the boy side (maybe) but I definitely don't ever feel like there is any male dominance in the Paleo realm. There are so so many very vocal woman and supportive guys that it would be hard for me to feel that way.

There are on the other hand many assholes in this world and it makes perfect sense that we would get our fair share. Unfortunately it sounds like you found one. The best you can do is ignore said asshole and just walk away. If you're feeling fiesty and just don't give a damn you can call him out. You only have to answer to you and your community. Perhaps you'll say what everyone else was thinking.

I hope you don't feel like this is the norm. To me is seems like there are way more good people, both male and female in the Paleo realm than there are assholes.

The blogger in question (Richard Nikoley) +has always tossed swear words around, I didn't care that he used it- maybe too used to it from listening to the Sex Pistols during workouts, I guess. I thought the C word was cancer - now that word is offensive.

CUNT!! I LOVE the C word. I have no idea what post/tweet/blogger you are referencing or the context of the Cunt-tastrophy, but if he used it in a derogatory way, the problem is HIM, not the CUNT! It's shitty when people use words associated with women/womanhood in a derogatory way, ("you're such pussy", etc...). It is usually a result of lack of respect for, exposure to and influence from women. Poor sap.

But don't blame the CUNT! It's linguistically derived from fem-positive words of power. Read this: http://www.amazon.com/Cunt-Declaration-Independence-Expanded-Updated/dp/1580050751. And maybe send him a copy (from your fabulous Cunt) :).
