SURVIVOR/ REVERSAL OF Interstitial Cystitis! What ever you do please tell your wife to try the Paleo diet. I was diagnosed at 19 and my life became a living hell. I was on multiple medication, couldn't engage in any form of activity and was starting to get food allergies to things that I had been eating all my life. My doctors response was to up the medication and give me stronger doses so that I was numb to all the pain I was constantly in. After my first month on Paleo I dropped my symptoms, yes, bloating and pelvic pain included, by 50%. After four months on the diet I went off all my medications completely with the help of my doctor and have started HEALING the damage this disease does. I am currently 23 and have never felt, looked or preformed better and healthier in my life. The support groups are not there to give hope, just to complain about new procedures that remove more body parts and how much the medication cost. I will always have to be extra careful with my health, but its a much better price to pay then being sick, miserable and paying a small fortune for medication that did nothing but make me worse. PALEO saved my sanity and life. If possible please pass this on to the husband who wrote in.

If there are any other success stories please post, others need to know that it can be reversed.

It is a bitch of a disease, it made me borderline suicidal, and I took some crazy meds to get over it. I love to hear when others have recovered. I formulated this into a question for it to follow the format of the site and not get deleted.

I suffered repeat Urinary Tract Infections for many years after my bladder packed up and I had to use catheters. Obviously inserting a plastic pipe into what is supposed to be a sterile area is likely to introduce infections and once these become anti-biotic resistant it's almost impossible to get rid of them and prevent reinfection.

This paper put me onto raising my 25(OH)D somewhat higher (to above 125nmol/l 50ng/ml)

Antimicrobial peptides, innate immunity, and the normally sterile urinary tract.

There has since been a more recent paper going into somewhat more detail.

Vitamin D induction of the human antimicrobial Peptide cathelicidin in the urinary bladder.

There is plenty of evidence of the Anti-fungal activity of cathelicidins and their potential role in Candida albicans skin infection So it's reasonable certain that raising 25(OH)D so to above 50ng/ml 125nmol/l should enable the immune system to operate optimally.

I should also mention that I also take Curcumin.

Curcumin induces human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide gene expression through a vitamin D receptor-independent pathway

Curcumin acts as a Vitamin D Receptor ligand so improving it's action as may also happen with increased Omega 3 DHA levels.

It's also the case that biofilms are like a war zone where the pathogens are always trying to outsmart the human cells and at times try to turn our defence mechanisms against us.

Vitamin D and the Human Antimicrobial Peptide LL-37 Enhance Group A Streptococcus Resistance to Killing by Human Cells However by mixing our approaches to dealing with infection we are likely to stay one step ahead.

Curcumin suppresses Streptococcus mutans adherence to human tooth surfaces and extracellular matrix proteins

I was just wondering for the person well on paleo. I have been doing Paloe for a while and it has not cured my IC. Actually it got worse and I got kidney stones and then I found out I do not digest oxalates well, so the almonds and spinach I was eating was creating a lot of my pain. Anyway, I wanted to know what version of Paleo you followed? Did you eat fruit, honey or nuts while getting better? Or where you only eating meat and veges? Thanks!

Is this in response to Robb Wolf's podcast this week? He has asked people email their testimonials to him.
