I always have a peeled clove on top of the fridge. Just slice the end off so it's fresh & squeeze & rub it on. I usually do it right before bed or 20 minutes or so before a shower. It seriously honestly works better than anything.

I've found any vinegar will do. I don't care about taking away any sting so much as reducing apparent damage from the burn.

The baking soda paste for bee stings on the link above is a keeper. My daughter was stung by a yellowjacket once at a farm. They had that paste sitting right by us, and we used it. Sting cleared up in 10 min. My other daughter got a yellow jacket sting on her foot. We stayed up until 3am putting icy water bottles on it until I remembered the baking soda paste. That finally worked and she was able to sleep.

Here's my best one: HAIR DRYER for mosquito bites (or no-see-ums, etc. any bite that itches for days). Blow the hair dryer (high heat) on the bite for as long as you can stand it. It hurts like a DOG for a second, then aahhh relief. Usually relief will last about 5 hours, then I will do a repeat and it's gone for good. Apparently the high heat releases all the whatever around the bite, which is why it hurts once really bad, and then it dissipates.

My grandmother taught me to put vinegar on a sunburn. It makes it turn into a tan instead of burn and peel, and it works great for my skin. I haven't ever heard of other people doing this, though.

Haha, I actually DO know the potato slices thing.

One time when I was 7 or 8 I had a splitting headache, probably the worst I've ever had in my life. It lasted a long time, aspirin and other over the counters just wouldn't cut the deal. My grandmother (who is Armenian by way of Lebanon) recommended cutting potatoes into slices and placing them around my head with a wrap.

No joke, in less than 20 minutes the pain was gone and I have no reason in retrospect to believe it was placebo because several other remedies were tried first.

Onion skin to stop the bleeding of a cut!

I tried this one out firsthand last night! I sliced my thumb pretty deep when cutting brussel sprouts. I then wrapped it in onion skin and held it on for about 10 min. In the past knife cuts have bled and bled and I've needed to change the dressings frequently- but not last night with the onion skin!

Squeezing the oils out of raw garlic will 100% clear up any pimple, zit, boil, pretty much any type of skin infection. Rub it on once or twice a day, three days tops. Usually two, mostly gone overnight.

Many Aborigines of 'Australia' use crushed witchetty grubs mixed with a bit of water for an antiseptic. I may try it if circumstances line up one day (ie I have a wound and some witchetty grubs handy!)

edit- actually maybe this isn't so much a 'home' remedy as one relating to traditional medicine practices... They seem linked to me though...
