Online meat shopping

I realize this question was already kind of asked, but it only got one answer so I wanted to try again. Anyone have any reputable and fairly-priced resources for buying wild game meat online? (Major points if you know somewhere that sells rabbit and/or boar). Hopefully, grass-fed and as "wild" as it can get would be nice... Links, please! :-D

First, I'll say this: officially, there are no truly wild game meat sellers. All meat sold in the US is farmed to some extent. Granted, this may be a 700 acre farm where elk roam freely and are all grass-fed only (for e.g), but it's still a farm. This is especially mind blowing when you think about animals like "wild boar" being quite literally not actually wild. Rabbit you will want to eat has most certainly been farmed. Even the venison you may see on occasion at restaurants has been farmed.

However, there are wild game "clearinghouses". They are usually local, or "this guy I know told me about it" type places, where hunters often bring the meat they hunted to an legitimately licensed butcher.

  • I would start your pursuit by going to a site like eatwild.com and finding local farms and farmers markets to visit
  • Talk to the farmer or every vender there for where the best place to get exotic or truly wild meat locally is
  • This also creates a demand for the products you are searching for
  • Personally, I found easy access to rabbit and goat this way; I get my elk sent to me via UPS by a lady that runs an elk farm that I meat when I used to live near the farmer's market she frequented.

Summary: network to find the best meats.

If anybody's tried Broken Arrow Ranch, I'd love to hear their opinions. Not cheap, but it probably shouldn't be, and it's the closest thing I've found.
