whole 30-puffiness,headaches,toilet woes

So I'm on day 8 of my first whole 30. I was previously about 80/20 primal (some dairy, natural sweetners),then for pretty muchdecember -january all hell broke iloose. (Death in the family) I ended up going to visit family for 2 weeks,I ate whatever was around did not exercise and generally felt like crap. Came back home started whole 30. For the most part I feel awesome.high energy, great mood, reduced cravings, but for past 2 days I have been puffy, headachy and on the toilet constantly. I do workout a lot (weight lifting, spinning, yoga, etc) and have a decent amount of muscle with maybe 15 or so lbs of fat to lose. So what's going on with my body?

I definitely don't feel sick. I have plenty of energy. I pretty much eat a lot of the same stuff. Eggs, coconut milk, chicken, salmon, assorted vegetables. I do eat sweet potatoes bc I workout so much. The only thing I can think of is that I had a few spoonfuls of sunbutter on Sunday not realizing it had cane sugar in it. I also do not typically eat sunflower seeds but I've never had a reaction to htem before.I am more concerned with how swollen I am.

I did a Whole30 and spent half my day on the toilet as well. When I finished and added whole milk yogurt back into my diet that symptom resolved itself. It may end up being that you're just detoxing out the junk, or it may be that your gut is perfectly happy getting a regular dose of probiotic rich dairy. The only way to know is to stick it out and then try tweaking it when your 30 days are up.

Maybe you are puffy from eating too many carbs on during your time off from paleo? Try kickstarting your return to the paleo lifestyle by removing the starchy carbs (sweet ptoatoes) for 4-5 days, and only eating green vegetables + 1-2 servings of berries/low sugar fruit per day.
Your glycogen stores may be topped off from all those carbs, so leaving them out for a few days will have some aesthetic benefit if it is indeed the case.

Sounds like you might be sick. Lots of stress, plus lots of family, minus physical activity equals a weakened immune system regardless of your diet.

However, a sample of the quantity of foods you are eating might help us figure it out. The rules of whole 30 are great, but if you pick only 4-5 of those foods and over eat them, it can be troublesome.

I am currently on day 12 of my Whole30 and the same thing happened to me at around day 7-10. It did go away though... just make sure you are getting a wide array of foods in your system.

Sounds like you could be detoxing from your Dec/January binge. I have found that if I go off plan even a little bit, that I can have a couple of detox days that include general body aches, brain fog and many trips to the john.
