Does taking a Whey protein do anything for muscle building?

I stopped taking the stuff about a year ago because I doubt I need it now that I'm eaing Paleo/HG. But does anyone have some science that shows whether or not it helps gain muscle with a weight lifting regimen? I've found one study that states pretty clearly there are no advantages but the "protein drink" was a mix of "whey protein, amino acids, creatine, and carbohydrate" - which doesn't really control for "whey protein" (or creatine for that matter).

Thanks.

I lost a lot of muscle but that's because I hardly ever lift anymore. I'm constantly injured from random things, so it's like I continually start over.

Just drink milk and eat chocolate post workout. That will give you everything you need, and the chocolate will spike your insulin. Whey powder is a scam. Drink some sodium bicarbonate in water to deal with excess lactic acid. Good luck.

I've always had luck with it. Plus, whey protein isolate is 99% lactose-free, which makes it a good option for me.

However, these days, I prefer to eat a pound of lean beef and pound and a half of potato, PWO.

But, I think they're both viable options, depending on how you react to dairy. You said stopped taking it a year ago. Have you seen any muscle loss?
