Your best weight loss results : how did you do it?

Hi! I am female and have 10-15 pounds to lose. I am paleo for a couple of months and lost a little bit of fat, got leaner, stronger and sexier. Feel great. But now I just binge out every day on paleo food and can't lose more weight. I actually put on 2-3 pounds back, although it doesn't look the same. I realize I eat a lot of nuts and a lot of meat/fat. Veggies are not a part of my every day meal plan, because they are too expensive now and dont have the best taste in the winter. I eat a lot of fruits, also bananas.

So I decided just to eat fruits, veggies, lean meats : fish and chicken, no fattie meats of smoked meat, eggs and some avocados/olive oil for a month. I just can't have only 50 grams of nuts a day and when I eat a banana, they become 2-3 and then my apetite is soooo big!!!

What do you think of my approach? What did work for you? Did you have the same problem at the beginning? I really want this appetite to go away like some say...

I also lift weights 2-3 times a week, just bodybuilding split and do cardio after the training everytime plus 1-2 more times only interval cardio. So that makes 4-5 trainings a week.

All the best, Penelope

I would suggest replacing the nuts and fruit with sweet potatoes. From my experience, glucose is more satiating than fructose, and nuts are soooooo easy to gorge on!

I live in Germany. Here 2 pounds tomatoes are just as expensive as 10 BIO eggs or 250 g wild salmon fillet. So when the taste sucks, I just prefer to eat some real food : protein and fat, the fibers I eat from fruits, as the taste is sooo much better and they cost not so much. But now I will try to eat more veggies. :)

I love it when men tell women, who have completely different hormones and whose bodies prioritize hanging onto fat, that they're just not trying hard enough to lose weight.

Thanks, Kashkillz :) I really try :) I love fats and actually am pro-fat for a year. This is the first time in my life I have perfectly long waves to my lower back and my hair looks so shiny. My skin is also in very good condition. So : PRO FAT :) I just want some more visible progress next to the great paleo feeling : my abs to get ripped. I want a lower abs tattoo. Ok, enough for me. This site is amazing! Helped me so much! Penelope

Also, I learned that frozen vegetables are sometimes more fresh than the fresh vegetables, since the fresh ones may be out on the shelves longer! You can just put frozen vegetables in a coffee cup with a little bit of water, cover it with plastic wrap, and microwave it for four-five minutes. Super easy!

+1 for trying and caring about your health, Penelope. Like others have said, lose the fruit & nuts. Don't be afraid of the fats. And research as many different methods as you can. Retain the most repetitive elements. Good luck...

Totally agree. Fruit is dessert. Nuts are addictive, they change metabolism.

I ate enough fat & protein to keep me from being hungry all the time -- fatty cuts of meat, in other words, and eggs. I added extra coconut oil & butter to my meals, especially if I was eating something that would otherwise be low fat. I cut out snacking entirely. I ate nuts only very rarely since it's hard not to overeat nuts, but I did eat quite a bit of fruit, veggies, sweet potatoes/rice, & fermented full fat dairy (cheese, yogurt). I also tried to eat a wide variety of foods, since I think that helps to avoid the kinds of nutritional deficiencies that cause excess hunger, and I started eating nutritionally dense foods like liver & homemade bone broth regularly.

That took me to within 5 pounds of my goal, and then I started counting calories and upped my daily movement/lowered the amount of time I spent sitting, and that got me there.

Shangri-La Diet + Low Carb + Paleo + Calorie Restriction.

I lost 113lbs and kept it off so that now I am, statistically, an outlier.

Veggies are expensive?? I would reduce or eliminate your fruit and nuts and just focus on meat/fish/eggs, lots of vegs (I eat 2 cups raw - but I cook them - with each meal) and fat.

This wouldn't work for me. I would prioritize veggies; cabbage is inexpensive as are frozen veggies. I like frozen broccoli and cauliflower, etc as I pay 8 or 9 cents an ounce and there's no waste, everything in the bag is edible. I would gain weight if I ate bananas so frequently. One a month is more like it for me.

My best weight loss diet is eating paleo with tons of veggies, limited amounts of sweet potatoes. I keep my protein reigned in ever so slightly by eating modest portions of meats (probably 3 to 4 ounces) including very fatty cuts or, say, one or two eggs for a meal instead of 3 or 4 but cooked in plenty of butter. I limit my fruit to one serving a day or less; one day it's berries, another it might be a small apple. If I have nuts, they are the protein for a breakfast, 1/4 to a 1/2 cup and that's it. On top of this type of diet, some IF. That worked great for me. I don't measure the weights of meats just gauge by eye, I do measure nuts, I don't count calories, I do some long walks and weight lifting. I do full day fasts. It works great for me.

I lose weight on Very Low Carb, high protein, and I adjust my calories with fat intake but it's medium fat. Note there's no need to eat insane amounts of fat while low carb.

YMMV

The low appetite part comes with ketosis for most people.

Cut carbs back (fruit, nuts)and up your good fat intake significantly. You will always be hungry without fats!

Also, buy frozen veggies if fresh are too expensive this time of year. To make this sustainable, you need variety.

Hey!! :) Thanks to all for the answers. I can see now my mistakes - I just eat too much of the wrong foods. :)

In every answer I found something new and helpful, so that now I am ready for progress! I actually bought some veggies and found that I can spend on the fruit and nuts and compensate with vegs. But they are really expensive.( I am a college student ;) )

The tomatoes are definitely GMO and taste like nothing, but okay, I will try! Also I bought spinach (frozen) and some other frozen veggies : that's perfect! Thanks for the idea.

The only fruit today was the grapefruit juice (fresh) after training, but it helps me to balance my appetite. After that I just can't eat a lot.

So today looked like this :

Breakfast : 4 eggs with olive oil, avocado Lunch : chicken breast with avocado, spinach, tomatoes

Training

Post training : grapefriut fresh, some chicken Dinner : Salmon, olive oil, tomatoes, mixed veggies

And I feel full ! Just perfect :) Hope I reach soon my 4-pack - goal :)

All the best and a lot of smiles from me, Penelope

I have no idea, but I've never had to eat under 200g carbs to get to contest shape. My weight fluctuates from about 185lbs in the winter to about 150-160 for the "beach" months. I do this every year, for the last 8 years. So every year i gain 25 lb pounds on purpose, and lose it again, with a little extra muscle, on purpose.

The secret is: Realize that you are in control of your body. Weight, and how you look are 100% under your control. You can do it mathematically by counting calories and logging workouts, or you can do it intuitively just by that strange "hungry" feeling you have. It doesn't matter. So I wouldn't give too much credit to ppl that tell u to go low carb (20 years ago ppl said low fat was the way to go..now it's high fat...).

Just eat less. Hard? Try. I mean really try.

I used 4-Hour Body Slow Carb Diet... not Paleo (heavy on legumes), but very effective and honestly is the reason I'm Paleo at all. Dropped 30 lbs in 2 months.

Now I'm using Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting to strip away the final stubborn fat areas. Going very well.

There are great Internet resources available for both approaches. I recommend you get the 4HB book if you're going to try that, though.

I lost my weight by eating pretty strict paleo (with the occasional carb re-feed in the form of great beer). And that was it. I didn't have the hunger issues.

Also, you say, I actually put on 2-3 pounds back -- this is pretty common. Just as you loose a quick 3-5 lbs of water weight, at some point you put this back on. It's not fat -- I assume it's water weight -- but after I hit my maintenance weight 2-3 weeks later I put on 3 lbs, and have been there for several months now.

Trying not to overdo and aggravate something or other that brings a hip & knee soreness, I've returned to walking 3 minutes and jogging 2 minutes (on a soft surface, i.e. grass along the sidewalk) for 30 minutes total. This really aids my weight loss like nothing else.
