I have been very sick with a gastro intestinal bug/issue( doctors found nothing). During this time I was not on the paleo diet but started because I was wondering if my issue was celiac. During the sickness I lost 15 pounds. I was already very thin and fit ( before the sickness). I was 174lbs now down to 158...ouch! I am also 6"1'. Most of my symptoms have disappeared however I am still losing weight on this paleo diet...? Is it hard to gain weight on this diet? Any help would be great!

Scott

Thank you for the help! I haven't return to full time training yet but I was trainning 2x a day for 2 months straight Heavy lifts with martial art every day. It looks like i need to pick up some more fat based products! Can this much fat cause GI distress? Because i just through 6 week of pure h@ll. Thanks again! Scott

Thank you for your time. Been on the diet for about 2.5 weeks. I did a little math and it looks like I am only consuming 1900 calories/ day! I guess this is why I'm still losing weight. I am eating 4 big meals a day and 2 snacks in between?! I don't get it. How do I cram in 2000 more calories???

Hi Scott, and welcome to Paleo and PaleoHacks!

The simple and obvious solution is to try to eat more. Add a lot more fat when you are cooking (coconut oil, butter, lard/tallow/duck fat, etc.) and eat a lot of starches (white rice and potatoes). Don't focus on cardio but do lift heavy weights and make sure you are getting enough protein. I wouldn't worry about macronutrients right now as the important thing is to make sure you're eating at least 1000 calories above your BMR.

Sorry to hear of your sickness!

Since you've had gut issues it may be sensible to start a gut healing diet, focusing on (but not limited to!) bone broths, probiotic yoghurt (if you do dairy), fermented veges, kombucha and kefir. The idea is that the guts health governs the rest of the body's health. Once your gut is healthy, eventually your weight should start to 'normalize'. Some of my favourite reading and research material is on chriskresser.com on gut brain axis and Dr Natasha Campbell McBride's GAPS diet. If you're interested, have a read, it's certainly worth your time. Fat shouldn't be distressing on your gut, but do increase it gradually for your liver's sake! The BEST oil for you would be coconut, I reckon. Very healing for the gut lining :)

You may have seen this already but here's an article from Mark Sisson http://www.marksdailyapple.com/what-if-i-dont-want-to-lose-weight/#axzz2II1SwfXg

I hope that helped! All the best, Scott!

How long have you been paleo? It can take a while for the body to adjust to new fuel. As long as you're eating enough, I think that you should be able to maintain and gain weight while eating paleo. Here is an article on gaining weight from a 'primal' source (slightly different from the paleo diet). It also discusses 'normalizing weight'. Hope this helps!
