Maintaining Weight

I'm a paleo newbie and am hoping someone out there might be able to help me... Having gone almost fully paleo for the past 2 months, I find that I'm having a hard time to keep my weight on. I don't need to lose weight and in fact, I always have easily lost weight. I'm wondering what I need to be doing differently and whether anyone else has experienced a similar thing.

I would think that adding starch (ie. sweet potatoes) and some fruit like bananas would help in maintainimg weight. Also, dairy can help, if you allow dairy.

While unusual to most of us, I think this is a legitimate concern. I'm eating paleo to lose weight, keep/regain health, but I am taking care of my mother (79) who is quite underweight (103 lbs, 5'6") and finding it hard to increase her weight to a healthy BMI. Part of the problem is that she isn't fond of high calorie density foods like nuts and meat (she's a pescatarian). I'd like more info too on how to raise weight on a paleo diet.

This is a problem I would not mind having.

Can you explain why you need to stay at a certain weight?

I have the same problem when I stick 100% to Paleo. From my experience I found that animal fat was needed to reduce overall weight loss. I also train pretty hard and find that I need some starch carbs like sweet potato for recovery. Have you read Paleo Diet for Athletes? It may help you work out what you are missing out on if you are training hard. :o)

So you're eating paleo and can't keep your weight? 1) Are you exercising with heavy weights (to keep the muscle on), 2) are you getting enough calories? (use fitday.com and plug in a week of meals).

Something I saw on my side was I was filling up on proteins so I was not hungry, but overall got lower calories than expected. Pumped up the fats to get the calories up.

Eat more, and eat calorie dense foods. That means fat - add it to things.
