How fast do you go through your coconut oil ?

I just bought my first jar from Trader Joe's 4 days ago (16 oz) and I've gone through almost half of it already; I'm replacing butter and olive oil with it when cooking. I've read on several questions that some people go through a jar in as long as a month! At the rate I am consuming the stuff, I can probably go through a jar a week. I'm also eating it by the teaspoon whenever I want a snack (it's delicious)... am I eating too much? So far I have no adverse reactions to it.

Also, the jar says that 1-3 tablespoons should be consumed daily for health benefits. At this point in time, I'm primarily concerned about the weight loss benefits...should I be eating 1-3 tbsps in addition to using it for cooking? Gracias!

I think I'm more in agreement with Jesuisjuba's sentiments. I occaisionally enjoy the coconut oil I recieved in my Christmas stocking this year but I have no probmem incorporating enough fat into the food I cook. I never feel the need to just eat any in addition to using it for cooking.

+1- I dont' buy into replacing a processed foods in my diet with more processed foods, although I sympathize with Korion's position. There are certain 'paleo' foods that are comprimises that are definitely better than the alternatives.

Cool story bro! Just kidding I'd probably use it a lot more if I got it for free. As it is I rarely use it, I reason that my ancestors had never seen it so...

Great. I wish my mom used coconut oil instead of canola when I was a kid!

Also, I can't really see going through 16 oz in week from now on. The reason why I went through it so quickly is because I was replacing olive oil and butter with it... the stuff's great but can be a bit gag inducing if you overdo it.

Umm.. close to a year for a 16oz jar, halfway thru. I bought the TJ's to try, used once then sealed back up. Hmm.. maybe I should give it away as I probably won't touch it again until 2013 at this rate.

I take spoonfuls because I'm afraid to turn into an underweight vegan again. I don't tolerate big amounts of meat, so I gotta have a lot of fat in my diet to get enough calories. Coconut oil has a great profile, so I use that most of the time.

It takes me less than a week to get through 54 oz. It's the only oil I use, though I've been replacing some of it with ghee lately.

15 ounces lasts me about 4-6 weeks. My take is that coconut oil shouldn't the sole fat in your diet. Eat a variety of fats. Those who are taking spoonfuls of it regularly seem to believe more in its "magic" properties.

I just finished my first jar ever. I bought it a couple of years ago, along with a jar of the unrefined oil. That jar is still half full.

I buy two 54oz jars quarterly... but due to some recent dietary changes I'm probably going to need to buy more. The jar I bought two weeks ago is almost half gone, as I've been starting every day eating a tablespoon of it by itself, then washing that down with coffee... and quite literally, the weight has been melting off of me.

We just finished our third 5 gallon bucket in about 18 months. We are a family of five.
