I have twice in my life lost 100lbs through essentially a low-carb diet and exercise. I am once again at that point of needing to lose that much again. I keep it off for about 5 years or more each time. I always go back to neglecting watching what I eat and not exercising enough. I am pretty sure my thyroid is messed up but for years the doctors test it and it comes back normal and they won't test further. I have been treated for depression and given testosterone cream for low libido. ( to me these are both symptoms of a malfunctioning thyroid) My hands stay ice cold, dry skin, hair falls out, I always say my pilot light has gone out inside of me because that is how I feel.
With that said, my question is how big a part has fixing your thyroid played in this as opposed to the diet itself?

When does "the pilot light" go out? During VLC periods? During periods when you're not watching as closely? During another time?

Conventional medicine is TERRIBLE about understanding the importance of thyroid and treating it properly. You'd do well to find a naturopath or functional medicine doctor who understands the thyroid connection. You can get the tests yourself, but unless you have a good doctor to work with, you're not going to get adequate treatment anyway.
