Gaining weight/ bulking up on Paleo?

I'm having a hard time gaining weight in paleo. Most foods do not have enough calories and I do not want to waste too much money trying to get in 2-3K calories a day. Grains seemed to have a majority of my calories but now that I have cut them out they do not take up enough of my calories and meat is quite expensive. Any tips? I'm 17 Age 110 LB 5'5 and still trying to gain weight.

I should probably clarify that I ate 2 dozen egg yolks, tossed the whites as they upset my stomach/gut. Also for the majority of the last 2 months it was just meat and potatoes with some fish/cheese.

Butter is a pretty cheap way to add calories to your diet. You don't need to get massive amounts of meat. My protein levels are actually the exact same as they were pre-paleo. Some people here still eat white rice, so if you're still interested in that, I don't think it will be the end of the world. Rice and butter are both pretty cheap.

You might also try to incorporate some strength training to build muscle.

Can you give us an example of what you are eating now?

If you consider potatoes paleo then I've been paleo since April. In April I was 6'3" and 165-170ish. I'm 200 now, which for my height is an OKAY athletic build. If you really want I can post pics tomorrow so you can see I'm still pretty low body fat, less than 9-12% or so. In the beginning I was doing Low Carb for god knows what reason, lol. In the last 2-3 months I've gained 15 pounds or so. I could eat dozens of eggs and pounds of steak per day but I did NOT start putting on solid weight till I started including potatoes. Potatoes made all the difference. For example, today I had around 3-5 pounds of potatoes, 2 dozen eggs and a pound of ground beef. I'm experimenting with the eggs though I don't necessarily advocate that many per day or anything. Potatoes are a cheap bulk food with pretty good micronutrients (magnesium/potassium). I also include either cheese or fish for calcium and some veggies. I don't really eat nuts, grains, legumes, seeds, fruits or honey.

potatoes and white rice are cheap and full of calories

Cook your rice in bone broth and cook your potatoes in lard or oil.

Nuts and Nut butters are also very high in calories

Also, Bacon -- delicious delicious bacon.

Add coconut oil to your vegetables.

Ok, so we dispelled that you cannot put up a heavy calorie load. Now let's deal with the bigger problem, " I do not want to waste too much money" -- no one wants to waste money. But we are talking about your health here. if you don't have money, then you have to figure a few things out. But if you just don't want to waste money, then you need to get your priorities in check. Waste it on good food now, or on poor health later.

As has already been mentioned, potato, sweet potato, rice, pumpkin are all calorie dense. Asing butter to stuff like steamed veggies, 'bulletproof' coffees are quite calorie dense too (coffee + coconut oil + ghee/butter).

White rice + butter + ground beef.

High calorie and not as filling as potatoes.

Best combo for weight gain
