Weight Fluctuation

For those of you weighing yourself every day, what kind of fluctuations do you "normally" see? I haven't had any large fluctuation recently, as I my eating has been somewhat consistent (IF, off days low carb, WO days hi/moderate carb). I'm currently eating at a deficit, on both WO days and rest days, but trying to carefully increase the WO day calories (avoid fat gain). The fluctuation is about 1.3-1.6 pounds, which is perfectly normal daily fluctuation, but I'm suprised that my weight is in the low end of the fluctuation in the mornings after working out on the previous day and having a huge 1200-1300 PWO meal with 140-160 grams of carbs, eaten fairly late in the previous evening (around 9pm). And the weight has been on the upper end of the fluctuation after rest days (when I've actually had fever calories, but slightly more fat).

What's you're experience? I'm just interested in this in general, since I would have thought the weight would be higher after a high carb/high volume meal (water retention, food digestion etc.)?

Hee. Yep, the post-pee weight. I've laughed at myself for that -- what can it weigh, a couple ounces? Still, I do it too.

yes, i do the same thing. my weight can range 4-5 pounds in a day. i track it and just like to see a downward trend over time, but day to day i dont pay much attention. i take the number from after i pee, first thing in the morning and go with that number to put on the chart.

I only eat meat (with occasional tumbles into the dairy vat), so I can't answer your specific question about post-high-carb weigh-ins and such. But even on a meat-only diet, my weight can vary up to three or four pounds on a daily basis; more if I'm using cream and butter. I'm a 5'5" female, not yet in menopause, so that's probably relevant. I think it's mostly water retention, and I've learned to think of my weight in ranges rather than precise numbers. High 140s, low 150s, etc.

Before paleo on a SAD, I'd fluctuate 4-5 pounds a day, sometimes more (always measuring in the morning after waking up). After paleo, around 1-2 pounds a day.

In the past I would weigh myself and I'd see little daily fluctuations likethat - one pound or so either way. I was drinking a tools bit of alcohol.

In the last six or so month i haven't drank much at all and I think maybe I see less variation. Not a big deal either way but perhaps the liquid calories had some kind of effect.

About the same variation. After I dropped from about 203 I stabilized around 175 for a couple months, then lately have dropped a couple more (skipping some lunches but eating VCO to keep energy up - I can really detect the ketosis)

The typical range between daily weighings is about 2 lbs, usually over a cycle of two or three days.

I've noticed a similar pattern of weighing surprisingly less than expected after a large meal the night before, and also notice that if I eat nuts or cheese during the day the scale will typically be higher in the AM for the next couple days. I suspect that the biggest reason is that a lot of bulk gets backed up in the intestines with certain foods (I do tend to overdue the nuts which definitely causes 'blockage' for me).

Also if I drink a lot of booze the night before it'll be higher - probably extra body water?

I've had a crazy idea lately and might ask it as a Question: it feels like my weight loss is a mirror image of my weight gain, only accelerated in time. For instance I went from 175 to 200+ relatively quickly (over some years but still...), and that's been my fastest weight loss. Before that I gained very slowly from 155 to 175 - and that loss seems much slower. It's like the layers of a Russian Doll, with the fat coming off in reverse order.... either that or I've been eating the wrong kind of mushrooms... :-)

My weight has been plus or minus less than a pound for weeks, it is literally always between 221 and 222. It is kind of strange. This includes one week when I skipped maybe 5-6 meals (partly by accident) but somehow the weight didn't budge. I haven't "cheated" at all during this time except maybe more red wine and cocktails than your average caveman drinks.

About 6 weeks ago I set out to lose about 10 more pounds, but I feel great and love my diet and have gone down a pants size and a half, and I'm losing interest in the weight figure and might just stop worrying about it.
