VLC, L-Glutamine, MCT oil and weight loss??? I'm so confused!!!!

I have spent the last few weeks muddling my way through various websites and blog posts regarding l-glutamine and MCT oil to aid in weightloss only to find that everyone has a varying opinion. I am wondering if anyone of you pro paleohacks would be willing to share your insight.

A little background: I am pretty strict paleo and have been off and on for years but this time around it has been about 4 weeks. For the most part, I try to stay VLC for weightloss. If you read my other questions about lexapro, you will see that I recently stopped taking it due to weight gain and the inability to shed pounds regardless of my diet, plus I just simply feel that I do not need it anymore. After 3 weeks of no Lexapro I can finally say that I am withdrawel free. (That was a rough 3 weeks!)

What I have added: To aid in this weightloss I read about MCT oil and recently (2 weeks) began adding a tablespoon to my morning protein shake. I also take one tablespoon of l-glutamine in the afternoon. This regimen seems to be working as I have finally seen the numbers on the scale go down...only 4 pounds but I will take it! :)

Questions:

MCT oil - I would like to add more MCT oil into my diet. Will this hinder my VLC state? If not, what are your suggestions on taking it? I'm afraid of taking it too late at night because I do not want it to keep me awake. I tried taking it in the afternoon but when I went to the gym, I felt like I was going to throw up through my entire workout. Ugh!

L-glutamine - I currently take 1 teaspoon in the afternoon mixed into a spark from advocare. I am going to cut out the advocare as soon as I have used it all up. My problem here is the L-glutamine tastes sour to me. Any recomendations on how to take it? Under the tongue best?

And finally, is it okay to take the MCT oil and L-Glutamine togethor first thing in the morning? I read somewhere that MCT oil should be taken by itself.

Also, please post if you see anything wrong with my regimen. Tell me your thoughts! I am open minded and up for discussion!

Thanks!!!

You know I have no idea...I'm really trying to stay low carb so I am not eating fruit which might be hindering my potassium levels. I've never really put much thought into it. On a regular basis I take fish oil, vitamin D and a multi. What are your thoughts?

I've heard of 1 tbps on an empty stomach doing it. Happened to me twice with 2 tbps all at once on an empty stomach.

Very interesting. L-Glutamine is the amino acid the brain can use for energy...

MCT Oil - You need to build up a tolerance. Start with a teaspoon and go up from there. This will NOT hinder your VLC state at all...it actually will enhance it by increasing ketone production. Do NOT take it at night because you will probably have a hard time sleeping. I like to take it between meals (I only do 2 meals) as a little boost, as well as before the gym in the morning since I train fasted

L-glutamine - Sorry I got nothin for the taste. Maybe some juice?

I have not heard anything against taking them together...I personally take MCT Oil with L-carnitine first thing in the morning (pre-workout). I actually read that it works better with "food", and usually that means with "fat", so that's why I like to take them together.

St John's Wort has helped people I know. (instead of Lexapro)

MCT Oil - Be careful. This adds energy (unregulated) to your blood whether your body needs it or not. Too much will make you poop your brains out for 6+ hours.

L-Glutamine You probably don't need it unless you are on a severely restricted diet or maybe if you are trying to heal your gut.

I've found that L-glutamine actually makes my anxiety worse. Makes me feel very wired and really active dreams, like i'm constantly thinking. Just thought that was worth mentioning. I took it for gastritis and couldn't praise it enough for GI issues, but can't see it helping much for weight loss? But if it's working for you, great.
