Is this amount of weight loss normal?

I started my Paleo lifestyle on Sunday the 17th, 4 days ago. I've gotten past the sugar cravings that I was having the first few days and I've slept better the last few nights than I have in the past few years. My only concern is that I may be dropping weight too fast. In 4 days I've gone from 183 lbs. to 176 lbs. Is 7 lbs. in 4 days natural? I've been eating beef, chicken or fish for every meal except breakfast and a couple of fruits and some veggies and nuts with every meal as well. And eating a decent amount, until I am full. For breakfast I usually just have a banana and some pecans because I don't have time to prepare anything before I go to work.

Yes, and it'll taper off soon.

Two things are likely happening simultaneously --

1) I really hate the term "water weight" -- often said as if it doesn't count as losing weight?! -- but you are quickly depleting your liver glycogen stores, and water is released by weight at a 1:2.5 ratio compared to glycogen (i.e. for every 1g of glycogen stored that is released, it releases 2.5g H2O).

Are you exercising? Glycogen will be depleted even faster - consider altering your diet as you progress to include enough dense carbohydrates from veggies to maintain your level of activity.

2) Some people are gravely effected by bloat (also retained water) from wheat products. Personally, I was only "kinda puffy" before dropping wheat years ago. Some people are much, much worse and it literally feels like magic to them when they drop wheat and wheat products.

So, I wouldn't worry - you're only 4 days in. I sincerely doubt you are wasting away.

Also, consider weighing your self at most once a week, if not monthly. I know it's exciting, but it will drive you crazy eventually.

Yes, that is completely normal. You probably have lost lots of bloating and water weight, especially if you are sensitive to gluten. The weight loss should calm down soon. If you are still losing that much weight in a couple weeks then I would be worried!

I was definitely "puffy" when I ate SAD and didn't even realize it until I started looking at pictures. That water weight equaled about 6 lbs for me when I first started. It's normal for most diets I think which is how the "Health" magazines in the checkout lane can claim "Lose 5lbs in 5 Days" or whatever their monthly claim is. I count it as wight lost though because it's weight I'm not EVER going to carry around again!

If you feel healthy and no health problems are present why would a rapid weight loss alarm anyone? Also I would wager many of you fat pigs are very obese so...
