I need to lose 40 lbs by July!!

I am trying to lose about 40 lbs before my sisters wedding and of course have a healthier body but I've been following the Paleo diet for 3 weeks now and initially I lost 3.5lbs but then gained them back.A bit frustrated because the clock is ticking and I am not happy with the way I look. I am 40yrs, 5'7 and weigh 239. What am I doing wrong? I am having the suggested oz of nuts and dried fruit for weightloss but idk.

oops, make that "not 40 lbs in 2 months..." Also, that's net carbs.

cut the honey too. NO sugars. If you must, use Stevia for a sweetener, as it seems to cause no insulin response in the system. Also, I skip fruit, except maybe once or twice a week. If you have more healthy fats, you won't be as hungry, and probably won't need the snack. Personally, I do 10% carbs (all from veggies), 25% protein, and 65% fats, and I've been losing weight like it's going out of style. That 10% carbs is HARD some days tho, and for some people, it's rough on the mood too. YMMV. ;) Not 40 lbs in 4 months tho. I'm very happy with a steady 1-2 lbs/wk.

Awesome, so glad to help. I am really just marveling at this lifestyle and how wonderful I feel. I enjoy the food so much more than anything I have ever tried. I'd eat this way even if I didn't lose weight,I think any weight loss is just an added bonus.

I lost 35 lbs in 2 months....but it was post-partum. It took going almost paleo plus breastfeeding to lose the last 5. As others have said: Go for health, the shape will follow. And you'll feel good and be happier :) Good luck!

Well for example yesterday for breakfast I had 2 eggs scrambled with zuchinis and Green Tea w/a lil honey. Lunch I had Turkey patties and asparagus. Snack papaya and jicama with some lemon. Almonds, walnuts and dried cranberries. For dinner baked salmon with a green salad and ceasar dressing (paleo safe).

I can't help noticing that your primary interest is losing 40 pounds, and good health listed as an afterthought. I'm not here to judge your priorities, just help you identify what they are. If losing 40 pounds by July is your most important concern, paleo, which is not necessarily a quick fix, may not be for you. I'm also not sure who suggested "oz of nuts and dried fruit" for fat loss to you. What are you doing for activity and sleep (especially sleep)?

I don't really eat nuts or dried fruit because I thought they often stalled weight loss. "Meat, greens, pick up heavy things" is my go-to plan.

I would start off realistic- if you are interested in losing 40 lbs in ~3 months you are probably going to have to restrict calories and "crash diet", which is not very good for your health. How about focusing on feeling good at the wedding instead of the numbers on the scale?

Hey Veronica, Welcome to PaleoHacks! Don't Panic! I've been on the diet three months and lost a whole 5 lbs. BUT, my waist and thigh measurements are decreasing while I'm toning up muscle, and I'm burning calories fending off my husband. It's only five pounds...but it's worth a whole lot more! I bet if you sleep better, relax more, hydrate well, and eat for nutrition, by July you'll look and feel fabulous no matter what number is on the scale.

Stop eating nuts and dried fruit. Delicious as they are they tend to derail your efforts if not carefully scrutinized and accounted for in your daily eating.

Add intermittent fasting to the mix, which means like skip an entire day of food and just do water and sugarless tea. Try yerba mate, I do it iced by the gallon, it is an excellent appetite suppressant, plus it will give you energy without the crash of coffee. It sound difficult but if you really want to lose 40lbs, it would help. I also agree with the no nuts or fruit advise, because that is where the calories and carbs and sugar are. Plus, I don't know what level of paleo you are, I don't do dairy, wheat, grains, or beans of anykind, I haven't dropped significant lbs but I have gone down two dress sizes and my stomach is flatter than it has been in years. So I would judge yourself by the numbers on the scale, rather your body composition. Additionally, I am 5'9 225lbs and I'm almost into a size 14 again, when I started I was pushing a 20 and have only lost 15lbs. Keep going, tighten up, and don't give up. If you are determined I think your 40lb goal can be done without compromising your health, or starving to the point of breaking.

I like the answer above that says, "Meat, greens, pick up heavy things." That's been working for me too! except, I'd say, "Meat, veggies, and walking." Pretty darn close.

Stress is one of the bigger barriers to weight loss. I would stop focusing on the number and focus instead on how you feel and what you can do to be more active and conscious about what you eat.

40lbs by July is about 4lbs per week. That is not a healthy or sustainable rate of weight loss and is an unrealistic goal.

That being said, losing weight on Paleo often LOOKS like more of a loss than it actually is. I know that, due to times of not being strict, I have actually gained 10lbs and still had friends and family comment on how much weight I am losing.

My recommendation would be to stop stressing, cut nuts and dried fruits (ESPECIALLY the dried fruits), concentrate on making yourself feel good and spend the time you are currently spending stressing about an unrealistic goal on finding something you will look (and feel) fabulous in.

Set attainable goals. Do you really want to lose 40 lbs in 2 months? What on earth do you think you will be losing? It won't all be fat, and losing fat is what makes you look thinner. Look at this link http://paleohacks.com/questions/7058/share-your-paleo-before-and-after#axzz1su9ErRZT it shows people's before and after who use this site. Understand when you see the pictures how long it took them to look like that.

Fruits carry a lot of sugar, nuts a lot of fats. Losing weight is more than just consuming a recommended amount of something that really should only be consumed seldomly anyway. Like Renee said, we need to see more of what you're eating, not snacking on.

It's kind of weird to lose only 3.5 pounds when switching to something like Paleo THEN to gain them back?

Need more information! :/
