hey guys, i have always had extremely stubborn fat that will not leave no matter what i do. ive been on paleo for 3 weeks, which i hope will be great for me as i have an intolerance to gluten and dairy! my first question is, were you on the diet for a while before you started losing weight? and for anyone with food intolerances, did you find weight loss was quicker or slower on paleo diet?

It's not the worst starch, there are just more nutritious options. I wouldn't neglect potatoes if you really want one every now and then. I think sweet potatoes, yams, parsnips and plantains just offer more nutrients and minerals per serving, thus if you need carbs, they are the best choice.

I'm 57, male, 5' 8", recently recovering alcoholic and drug addict, smoke a pack a day. Hardly a metabolic superman.

Started eating strict paleo in late February, lifting weights 2-3 times a week, one or two short interval workouts a week with a jump rope and daily walking---about an hour or two--throughout the day.

Lost like crazy! Went from size 38 pants to 32's and 31's, T-shirts XL down to L or M. No gut. Tight butt. Muscled up. Cheekbones. All that.

This thing works for me.

I didn't lose more than a few pounds until I started to count calories. I was working out religiously and eating paleo without paying attention to calories....I was basically spinning my wheels. I started to watch calories and the weight started falling off fast. GL!

Paleo has never helped me lose weight, but I'm OK with that. They say it's really hard to overeat veggies and meats, but I'm so skilled at overeating that I can overeat everything :-) Paleo, though, has made me feel so much better! I have more energy, I don't suffer from IBS anymore, and I don't have to obsess about calories (as much) as I would if I were eating SAD.

I went on the Paleo Diet about 30 days ago, I did cheat and weight before I started and then at day 30 - I had lost 6 lbs. I have to remind myself this is NOT a diet that I will ever come off of. This is my new eating style! My main focus was to bring my blood sugar down. I dropped from 170's to the 120's in the first 30 days. I'm an sleeping deeper and getting better rest. I am no longer plagued with acid reflux, I wake up with clear sinuses and no caking in my nose. All this and I'm not counting calories, just eating every 4 hours (4x a day with a fruit snack at bedtime)

As far as I'm concern, even though I need to loose over 50 pounds, I have never felt better. so I stopped weighing myself - it's distructive to my ego. I have gone down 2 pant sizes and find my body going back to the shape it was in my 30's. BTW, I do not exercise - I have issues. I am looking forward to getting out and walking again and I'm sure that will be this summer sometime.

I do have a question for a Paleo Diet expert: What is wrong with potatos?

Best wishes to all.

I was eating Paleo for about 2 months without any weight loss. After two months the weight started falling off extremely fast. I dropped from 245 to 220 in about 1.5 months, and I'm still losing. While trying to lose weight I stay clear of fruit and I take it easy on the nuts. I also Crossfit 4-5 days a week.

Did it take you a while to lose weight on paleo?

It took me 10 months-ish to lose 80 lbs???funny thing is, not only did I not realize I had that kind of weight to lose now I want to lose about 20-ish more.

I am starting into weight training, which is how ???I??? chose to do it, because I have a background in weight training so it???s not something that I needed to learn, what I needed to learn was whether or not I could have a relationship with food based around my needs and not my impulses???I know what I can achieve through eating the foods I should be eating, and if I wanted, I could eat this way and stay at my current weight, I imagine, for life???.but what is life if I???m not swinging for the fences and I want my 8 pack back!

Just remember...you decide ???Is today the day I fail??????fail can mean a lot of things to a lot of people, and when I say it to myself, and this is STRICTLY myself, I mean, ???did you fail in your ???diet??? and then learn something to make you that much stronger when you begin again, and you WILL, begin again??? or ???did I fail to live today, to take a moment and be thankful for what I have and what I???ve accomplished???

Is today the day I fail??????No.

Truth.

I didn't lose weight on Paleo, in fact gained weight on Paleo. It took me awhile to realize that I was eating too high in fat and that my food intolerances were playing a part. I just completed a paleo cleanse and am slowly losing weight. I realized that I am sensitive to dairy, eggs, nightshade family, possibly caffeine and many other foods that not only slowed weight loss but made me retain fluid. Right now I am slowly adding foods back and watching for intolerances, which for me is retaining fluid. So I am weighing myself daily so I can watch for fluid retention and I am recording all foods in fitness pal. So you may be sensitive to more foods than you think. A more rigid diet with just vegies, meats and some fruits and little added fats may help you quite a bit.At least it will help you figure out what is holding your weight loss up.

I have yet to lose any weight eating Paleo - I've tried VLC too - all I lost was water weight. Now I've been eating much higher in clean carbs (fruit, starches, no grains except basmati) and honestly pretty low fat except for seeds and what naturally occurs in the seafood I'm eating -- and I'm only now noticing any changes in body fat. I do not restrict calories at all.

I honestly think focusing on the numbers of "weight loss" sets up a road block, for me personally at least. When I stop thinking about if I've lost weight (which has been tough), and stop the heavy focus on the food, that's when it starts to happen.

It's most likely going to be a matter of patience and learning what works for your body :)

I was not diet before I started losing the weight. Weight loss was quicker with Paleo diet no matter how much you can eat. This diet is technically termed as slow carb diet. The idea is to cut down the carbohydrates.
