2 weeks til a big event...is ZC the fastest way to slim down for it?

Answered on August 19, 2014

While I am well aware that the paleo lifestyle is far from a crash-diet, I am trying to slim down and look as svelt as possible in a two week time-frame for a special event I have coming up. I have been eating paleo now for a while, but I'm thinking going ZC for a few weeks might help me feel slim and trim.

Will I see significant results if I eat ZC for two weeks? Has anyone had any success with this? Is it worth it?

Yes and no. I haven't found any evidence that convinces me it isn't healthy long term, and I know that there have been cultures in the past that have been VLC/ZC almost all the time. On the other hand, it's the kind of thing that isn't easy to prove scientifically, so I can't ever be completely certain. What I do know is that for me, it is absolutely, without question healthier to stay VLC/ZC than not to. It's a question not just of weight, and all obesity implies, but mental health, which can be a matter of life and death.

Are you convinced that VLC/ZC is healthy over the long run? I am still debating this one.

I agree! I have been using a Paleo version of a Protein Sparing Modified Fast over the last two months to get rid of some extra weight that creeped up. Over my lifetime of weight loss I have never had anything work so well or so quickly.

When I was ZC I was predominantly consuming bone broth,grass-fed cream, fatty gelatinous cuts of pastured meat, and organs along with the occasional serving of shrimp or octopus.

That's good to know. It means I still have some ammo in my arsenal to get rid of the last bit of fat. Have you reintegrated carbs?

That's pretty much it. Meat, fish, poultry and some eggs. It's not horrible but hard to sustain for very long for most mere mortals. VLC would be 20g carbs so greens mostly. That can be very effective too.

Yes I think ZC produces the best results for a 2 week period. Meat and eggs basically although the ZCers would argue with me on the eggs, lol.

But then again what do I know? Given the current climate the PC paleo answer is that carbs don't matter so just eat a few more sweet potatoes with your white rice for the next two weeks and you should come out looking like an Adonis.

If you wanna go hardcore Spartan, protein sparing modified fast. Look up Lyle mcdonald's rapid fat loss and "paleoize" it.

I think it depends on how many carbs you are eating at the present time. If you are higher carb, VLC or ZC would take off some water weight and some true weight fairly quickly. You would feel slimmer and less bloated. If you are already on the lower carb scale, it would take longer.

Slim Fast, baby!

seriously...I've never done ZC, but have had great quick results with VLC, about 20g carbs/day. That was going from SAD though, so I'm not sure how dramatic your results would be if you're already eating pretty well.

Good luck!
