weight gain with Paleo

I am feeling very sad and stressed about gaining weight since starting Paleo and Crossfit. I eat at least 90% to 95% Paleo with the occasional dairy product or small treat. I started Crossfit a little over a year ago. I was already in good shape, but the Crossfit has definitely taken me to another level. For years, I have eaten very low carb, sugar and grain, and since having my last child was able to maintain my weight(staying in a two to three pound range). About six to eight months ago, I decided to go strict Paleo and I quickly (within 3 weeks) gained 5 to 6 solid pounds. I have not been able to take the weight off no matter what, and it seems to be getting worse. My pants are not fitting anymore. I am a relatively small woman. Any advise out there? Please help! Thank you!

Without really posting much information to go off of, my only advice is... "Go you! You can do it!".

What is your carb intake? Without carbs I can't gain any weight, even if I try(and boy do I).

Are you exercising along side maintaining strict paleo? REMEMBER muscle weighs more than fat! If you're still working out maybe you gained 3-5 lbs of muscle! Also, I wouldn't stress over that small amount of weight - do you feel good? Are you sleeping well? Are your energy levels up? Those are the important things; don't let a silly number crush your soul... you're better than that.

okay, so something is not working out. you want to lose weight but doesn't, this means you have to change something.

  1. you say you eat 90-95% paleo. Try eat 100% paleo. Stop with the treats and dairy products.

  2. try to cut your carbs even more. How many are you eating today?

  3. See how many calories you're eating, maybe you're eating way to many. Paleo is a great tool for weightloss, but basic rules still apply.

I would start with number one and see if that works, if not combine 1 with 2 and so on. Weightloss is individual and the same thing doesn't work for all people. So if something doesn't work - make changes until it starts to work.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I first started paleo. It turned out that when I eat paleo I need about 250 calories less a day. I'm not sure why, but maybe because food gets more completely digested. Anyway, I started eating less and weight returned to usual normal.
