What soap do you use to wash veggies and other products?

I'm concerned that the chemical stuff we use to wash product is probably even more dangerous than shampoos, toothpastes, etc as we actually eat it then. But on the other hand there is a risk of catching a deadly infection as the products are usually handled when transported as badly as we can't even imagine.

So, what's your best Paleo choice?

Ha- how funny to meet you here! East side of Lakelse Lake. Weather is mainly clammy and wet enough to mildew green beans, with occasional sunshine and lots of wind.

i just looked at your profile - and you live at Lakelse?? What part of the lake? Oh I love it up there - and spent many summer days lounging at a friends cabin at the lake (I lived in Rupert for a few years). How's the weather been lately up there?

let me add that we would squeeze the 1/2 lemon in and then throw the whole thing in the water. at home I just use lke a wedge of it since my sink is much smaller :)

In my experience, drugstore H2O2 is in 3% solution. Check the label before diluting.

yea, i avoid preprepared veggies for the same reason. Bleach on my food? no thank you. I use an emulsion of coconut oil and dr. bronners soap in water on crops that they use a ton of pesticides on such as bell peppers...

I use water only; largely because I only buy organic veggies, mostly from local farmers at the farmer's market.

I find (from years of observation) that most small farmers take a lot of care with their produce--especially the lettuce/fresh-eaten veggies--they can't afford not to.

I just use the spray function on my sink but i'm not worried that much about the dirt. I don't think you should over-wash them.

Commercial food plants that make ready to eat veggie packs and things use some really strong stuff to wash them (ozone and chlorine). Since I found that out I avoid premixed and pre sliced veggies at all costs.

When I buy veggies at the farmers market I maybe rinse them in cold water but that's it.

I just use water to rinse them and peel things like carrots unless they are from my garden which is pesticide free. Things like cabbage which may have critters in get dumped into a sink of cold water with a few shakes of salt in (that serves as an eviction notice and the worms end up floating).

If I was very worried about what was on my produce I'd look for another source of veggies.

Just water for me, and if it's organic and doesn't look dirty, I may skip washing all together. When I get non-organic berries, I usually soak in filtered water for half hour or so, then rinse.

I use Biokleen produce wash. I buy organic and usually from the farmers market but I NEED to wash my stuff. I'm less concerned about chemical residue or dirt than I am of contamination from people and their grossness. Do you know how many people have touched your food or sneezed on it or knocked it on the ground and stepped on it before you buy it? Call me a germaphobe but yuck!

When I worked at a juice bar we would use 1/2 lemon and a few shakes of salt in a sinkful of water and scrub our fruits and veggies in that and then rinse in cold water. Not sure what the scientific gist of this is but it's what we did and I find I do it at home when I have a lot of lemons on hand.

If there isn't grit on it, I don't bother washing it. I have heard, though, I am OK being lax about the veggies, but I should probably be a little better about washing fruit. Fruit tends to have more pesticides (if non-organic, naturally) on the skin.

3% food grade h202 (hydrogen peroxide) and water. It's safe enough to brush your teeth with, so it's safe for your food too. You can find it online, or dilute 30% h202 from a drugstore 10:1 with water in a spray bottle.
