Additives in Vitamins -- Which to be concerned about?

I was curious about whether anyone had some information about which additives in vitamins (fillers, stabilizers, etc.) might be most harmful from a paleo perspective. Have you identified any additives that will cause a reaction in you?

I know to watch out for obvious things like soy oil and gluten, but some of the terms are confusing (vegetable stearic acid? Croscarmellose?) Any advice on what to avoid?

Also, a LOT of people take supplements. I really don't see the need to defend taking vitamins.

I'm not asking for things to react to. There are many notes on here about people who react to various additives in vitamins. I do have a serious gluten intolerance and react to cross-contamination in a number of ways (large welts and hives, migraines, digestive issues, among other things.)

But you're asking for things to react to. You just have to figure out what you react to and what you don't. You made no indication that you have sensitivities to anything in the original question. Most people are normal. They don't have sensitivities and don't need to fret over additives in supplements. Are you diagnosed celiac and have real reason to think your gut has been harmed by gluten or are you just toeing the paleo line thinking that seems to think we're all hyper-sensitive and broken?

I do react to things pretty severely. My stomach is pretty damaged from years of eating gluten and it's hard for me to digest lots of food or absorb all the nutrients from what I eat.

Some people have hypersensitive reactions to foods/substances that for others might be digested or broken down easily and excreted without triggering an immune response. Lactose is one such substance.

Matt, I think the poster was looking for info on the ingredients she doesn't know. The medical names for common substances can be tricky to unveil. If she is Celiac, I can fully relate to this mistrust she has with our labeling system.

Reality check. How many supplements are you downing daily that the tiny amount of X, Y or Z in them is going to significantly affect your health? The old addage is: The dose makes the poison.

And why are you supplementing in the first place?
