Hello, I'm new here so please forgive me if this has been answered and if so please advise me where to look. I'm an Australian 39 year old female and a long term shift worker of 18 years. I've recently started paleo in the last few weeks. I was wondering if there are any known symptoms of vitamin D deficiency besides getting tested at the doctors?
My problem, along with many fellow shiftworkers is that any time you feel like death it's usually blamed on sleep deprivation and obviously trying to adapt from days to nights, not to mention eating bad food at all hours!
I go to my local gym two or three times a week, mostly Les Mills bodypump and boxing classes, occaisionally a Tabata style class. I'm 165cm tall and weigh 65kg but need to lose some fat!
I've always been a big salt and carb craver, especially after nightshift. Things like potato chips and wholemeal rolls from the local bakery!I have lowish blood pressure and only get lightheaded rarely. The last three weeks have been a bit hard giving up all the rubbish food, I've been eating grassfed meat, free range eggs from our own chooks and lots of veggies and some fat. I've always enjoyed these foods but also ate lots of grains as well.
I've been thinking more about vitamin D because I spend so long inside and my body is always mixed up with the shift changes.I feel sad a lot since I'm often tired and I have a great husband/homelife and love being with my animals too. I realise this is not going to fix my life but is it worth looking into considering my circumstances? I take Nature's Own fish oil caps as I don't eat any seafood at all and I don't even like taking them either lol. I'm not a supplement person but am willing to change with some sound advice:-)
