vitamin C absorption through the skin

Recently I've been trying to increase my vitamin C supplementation, but it's hard for me to swallow a lot of capsules, so I thought about putting vitamin C powder in a foot soak with Epsom salts and seeing if I could get the same results as if I took it orally. I tried to find any research on using vitamin C transdermally and found almost nothing. Some sites claim that vitamin C can't be absorbed through the skin while others, like this one http://www.face-natural.com/blog/anti-aging/antioxidants-and-free-radicals claim that it can. Does anyone have any research about whether or not this is true?

Wait. The question is inquiring about transdermal absorption, not topical application. Not the same thing, right?

Not to mention you fail to answer the question itself, he's interested in transdermal, not topical, delivery of vitamin C.

Oh and just eat more paprica or kiwi, what so ever. And megadoses are useful just to get your vitamin C levels normal, otherwise, when you take every day megadoses you pee out the "too much vitamin C" and i would not advise you to keep this diet up for too long. Extra work for the body, which is quite pointless

Curious how much C you're trying to consume daily? Megadosing seems like a waste, since it gets eliminated so quickly (obviously our bodies don't want high concentrations of ascorbate around...)

I am a med student and we recently had biochemistry. There it was taught to us, that vitamin C practically nothing is absorbed through your skin. Cremes and what so ever have vitamin C in them, so that they would be longer available for use. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, so it prevents the cremes what so ever going bad, basically gives them a longer "best before" date.

I don't understand why people come to a site like this one to find answers. Google Scholar, people! Use Google Scholar to ask questions, and all that comes up is scientific, peer-reviewed studies with the conclusion right there for you to see. Here is a study showing that vitamin C enters the skin if the pH is less than 3.5:

Below are some other studies showing the ways that vitamin C applied topically repairs photoaged skin and protects from further damage. Do your research at places other than random websites. These studies are scientifically proven.

I've seen one set of labs where no vitamin C was supplemented, no citrus was eaten, leafy greens were eaten but not in huge quantities, and lemon was rubbed in the backs of the hands a few times per day, after 3 months of this regimen vitamin C status was normal/high.
