One thing to note - if you have become deficient despite eating foods that should have provided the vitamin or mineral, you may have some digestive problems. Heal the gut first otherwise no amount of supplementation will help!

Really no set time frame, would depend on each person and set of circumstances. You ideally would need a blood test to check levels. Obviously if you were deficient to the point of showing symptoms and the symptoms went away you would then have some proof that it was working, but you still couldn't tell if you had "ideal" levels.
