Fermented cod liver oil and low vitamin D status.

I've gone through 2 bottles (GEL not caps) of fermented cod liver oil and my vitamin D status is still incredibly low. (below 20)

I think possibly the vitamin A in the supplement is antagonizing the vitamin D?

I started using it for cavities but since have dropped the supplement and have been using Thorne vitamin D alone, along with sunbathing.

I question if using the same butter oil (for mk-4) and then eating liver would do the same for teeth health. I don't think the PUFA's or anything specific to fish liver is what helps reverse the cavities, correct?

Oil-based is absorbed better by most folk.

So boron might help? I guess sunlight doesnt hurt either. I got 108 mmmo/l (about 40 ng/ml) from sunlight alone, but it took the whole spring and summer withouth tshirt (about 6 months).

Interesting. I'm taking Thorne Vitamin D/k2 right now. I don't like the fact that it's not from a whole food source. around 5k IU's a day.

I recently added 4 brazil nuts a day. I already eat a can of oysters every other day or so... and a few pounds of mussels a week

In reading more, I'm going to bump up my intake to 2000iu. I like the Jarrow brand that comes in extra virgin olive oil. Maybe invest in these bad boys http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Vitamin-D3-5000-IU-100-Softgels/22926

The D in FCLO is mostly of the D2 variety, which isn't as useful for your body as D3 (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17023693), and with all of the A, FCLO just doesn't make a good vitamin D supplement. Invest in some D3 and a DHA+EPA fish oil (I'm currently drinking squid oil.) I take 1000iu of D daily, but, for you, maybe 5k+.

Gouda cheese is the highest. But I think its because of fermentation so it's not mk-4. I love Natto also, but thats not mk-4 either. im after mk-4 as it appears to raise testosterone and help with dental cavities.

FCLO has only ~ 1000 IUs per serving. You are much better off eating liver, eggs and cheese for A and K2 and taking an oil-based D3 supplement/sunning. If you are that low , then 10,000 IUs for 3 months should get your levels up.

No, fish oil isn't required for good dental health and yes, you will have an A to D3 imbalance with CLO only.

I would suggest sublingual vitamin d tablets. They come in 10,000 iu a day. When i started them, my vit d level was 45. Still normal but not too high. Now its 92. The brand i use is superior source.
