What vitamin deficiency do I have?

I've been having a lot of signs that indicate a vitamin or mineral deficiency since I went strict paleo a couple weeks ago. I've been paleo since Dec 2nd, but I only cut out dairy in the past few weeks. I've been having bad joint pain in my hips and shoulders, my nails chip and break off (never have before), I have white spots on my nails, my nose is slightly but constantly runny, and I've been getting randomly nauseous.

I'm already supplementing with vit D and gelatin. Is a multi vitamin my best option? Or is there something specific I need?

I usually eat eggs, sardines, salmon, pork, blueberries, bananas, zucchini, bell peppers, carrots, green beans, and sweet potatoes.

Maybe I should edit this.. I've been paleo for almost 6 weeks but I cheated over Christmas and I ate diary up until a few weeks ago

as others have mentioned, check your current vitamin intake using something like cronometer.com.

some things to look at (potentially related to nail health) are, zinc, copper, biotin (vit b7), silica/silicon, (not sure if those last two are tracked on cronometer et al).

on the nail thing, don't forget about growth rate of your nails...according to wiki, "Fingernails require three to six months to regrow completely, and toenails require 12 to 18 months"

so if the white spots relate to nutrition (& not damage) it could relate to months ago (depending on the location of the spots, distance from nail root.

Thanks I'll try them! I don't think I'm losing weight - 5'6 130lbs - but I haven't been drinking much water lately.

the runny nose could just be a temperature thing, either cold air temp or cold nose temp (or both). is it cold where you are at the moment.

with the cold nose temp, feel your nose, is it colder than 'normal' (pre paleo). are you feeling the cold more than pre paleo, may be colder extremities, hands, feet.

it would be useful to check your oral body temp, digital thermometers are inexpensive. set to read in Fahrenheit if possible (F temp intervals are slightly smaller than Celsius)

Couple weeks? It's not a vitamin deficiency. Those usually take a month+ to kick in. Everything else, look up low carb flu. That's what you're encountering.

You would have to get some type of blood work done to know for sure. But think about what vitamins you are not taking in everyday and try to take them.

Doubtful that a deficiency would show itself in a couple of weeks. Track your food with paleotrack or cronometer to see what kind of vitamins/minerals you are getting and where supplements might benefit.

It sounds like you're not drinking enough water. Consider spring water rather than tap water, and drink more than before. If you're losing weight, it's possible that toxins from your fat cells are now everywhere in your body, so you need water to flush it. Also, it might be zinc deficiency (judging from what you said about your nails), although we can't be sure without blood work. To get more zinc, eat some oysters. Canned oysters are ok too if you can't afford or find raw ones. Trader Joes has some in olive oil. If you can only find cans with seed oils instead, simply drain them, add them in a green salad, add olive oil and lemon, and voila. 600% RDA zinc in just a small can!

There's no way of knowing that it is a vitamin deficiency unless you get blood work for it. Don't play doctor and start shoving pills into your mouth unless you get some labs and are 100% sure. And please, consult your healthcare specialist first. These things you are experiencing could be totally unrelated to vitamins for all you know. Also, vitamin overdose is harmful as well. Good luck.
