Vitamin D in liquid form with no flavoring?
Created January 18, 2013 at 10:35 PM
Doc says I need 1000IU/day of vitamin D, and I agree that this amount is working very well to keep me out of the dumps. I'm taking a synthetic D3 supplement right now, and I'd like to switch to a natural source like fish oil or cod liver oil. (Because I think I'd have to eat way more fish than I can stomach, not to mention the cost.)
- I can't eat most capsules because they have soy binders. Gelatin only for me.
- I can't do flavored Carlson because the something in their flavors upsets me all day after I consume them.
So I'm looking for non-synthetic D in liquid form with no flavor. I tried a sample of Ascenta Nutrasea+D with apple flavor, and I didn't experience any issues, but I'm still hesitant to drop $45 for the bottle.
Any other alternatives?

these are carlson's but have no flavor at all- atleast not to me. i just dab it on my hand and then lick it off. i usually get mine in the health store for $20 but online it's way cheaper.
I think I'll try to find some this week. Thanks for the suggestion!

Grassrootshealth also have other charts to help you work out how much is generally required to attain and maintain a NATURAL vitamin D level around 125nmol/l or 50ng/ml.
Traditionally living populations in East Africa have a mean serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration of 115 nmol/l = 46ng/ml and these levels RISE with pregnancy and AGEING.
I've been taking Nature's Answer D3 drops in extra virgin olive oil. It tastes like olive oil, but it's only a drop or two, is that flavor ok?
Also, 1000IU seems low to me. I have read you should take 1000IU per 25 pounds you weigh, so I'd say take at least 4000IU per day. Can't hurt.
Another good option, thanks! I think I'll go with Carlson though - in my experience, olive oil spoils faster than mct/coconut oils. (Maybe a moot point though if I'm charging through the bottle in a month or 2.)
I take NOW Foods soft gels.

It's really hard to find any vitamin that doesn't have weird binders or whatever in them, isn't it?
Good option! Thanks!
Controversial? Maybe good for some people, but I'm super-fair-skinned and 5 minutes of a tanning bed starts to do some serious damage.
Oh that's awesome! But it has flax oil. I am hard to fit.
Damn, sorry....

Update: I've now been using Simple Truth (Kroger?) brand vitamin D3, 1000IU for over a month. No reactions, good price.
