Why do people supplement Vitamin C?

It seems that Vitamin C is extremely easy to get in almost every fruit and vegetable. Today I ate Strawberries, Brussel Sprouts, and Kale for a total of 4-500% RDA of Vitamin C. I feel like it is very easy to get copious amounts of Vitamin C from the Paleo diet yet I always read/hear about people supplementing Vitamin C on the paleo diet. Is there any reason/article I can read to understand this viewpoint?

Because some eat mostly meat, and avocado, sweet potatoes and coconut for vegetables. Concur that it is easy to get in multiples of the RDA.

Agree.  Paleos tend to eschew fruits. Supplementation is not needed if you are eating fruit

If you cook most of your food and don't really eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables, then taking a vitamin C pill once a week can keep one from developing scurvy. There's no harm in it I suppose, but probably not necessary if sufficient fruit is consumed (like fresh strawberries, lemons or kiwis). It's great for when you're trying to keep your carbs very low because you can skip the fruit (and its sugars) and get all the other micronutrients besides Vitamin C from low carb sources, so it's a good option in some cases.

Similar to Paleo in some respects but relying heavily on processed foods and supplements of all kinds.

Well, we've been told to take vitamin C for years now… and we feel it's a "safety" net against whatever vague problems we might experience. We just pee it away. Our bodies do a very good job of recycling vitamin C, that's why our needs are so low.
