Amusing comments regarding your VFFs?

Answered on August 19, 2014

I am currently walking on a trail (with recent "PH addicts" post in mind) sporting my vibrams and heard a passerby say to his wife "look, she's got those feet...shoes". Highlight of my evening without doubt. Does this sound familiar to you?

I feel lucky. My parents got me mine. They never know what to get me for my birthday, so it's typically a new pair, lol. But my ma did say "this way you won't be walking barefoot on the streets of New York!" in that motherly tone we all know.

A little girl standing in front of me at the bank with her mother kept staring at my feet. Then she asked her mother "is that man a hillbilly?".

I remember wearing them before people were accustomed to seeing them and got lots of strange looks, perhaps the funniest was a double take I got from a homeless man.

When I first got mine (black KSOs) last year my then 3-year-old took one look at them on my feet and ran away yelling "Daddy gots monkey feet!!!" They freaked him out for about a month.

The funniest thing I heard from a perfect stranger was when I was at my kid's soccer game. A parent from the other team looked at my shoes and said "Whoa, are you one of those primal dudes?"

Hahaha! I get stopped by people quite often, most of them asking whether I like them or not. Then they tell me that they (or someone they know) was thinking about getting a pair for themselves. I always say, "Go for it", and that it'll take some getting used to but I feel so much better wearing them!

My boyfriend gave me a ton of flak for wearing them, I told him I'd stuff my Sprints up his ass if he kept it up XD

For whatever reason, I have many asian girls stare, point and laugh when I wear mine. They usually say "Finger Toes! Finger Toes!" while covering their mouths giggling. I find it quite amusing. They're great convo starters, especially in elevators. I always wear socks with mine (Finger Socks! Finger Socks!) which is also a frequent topic of convo, whether they are familiar or not with them.

My VFFs have been called:

"Hobbit shoes" -- my brother

"damn monkey shoes" -- family friend

"treehugger shoes" -- person from college

"superawesome barefoot shoes that are great for this work" -- a guy in one of my theatre classes.

That said, VFFs changed my life. So I play along. =)
