Paleo leads to more prominent veins?

Has anyone else noticed that their veins are more prominent and visible after being on paleo? This applies to me. The veins in my arms, quads + calves, and even the vertical veins going from the bottom of my abs to my nether regions all seem bigger and fuller. I feel like it is not just because of getting leaner. It's fine with me since I am a guy, and I actually think it's pretty cool. But has anyone else noticed this?

I'm 26, male, 5'11", 165 lbs. Pretty active (soccer, weight training 1-2x a week). I probably get no more than 25g of carbs a day on average.

That would be my guess.

women with veins is not unattractive at all with exercise or on the body. until you get in that sub10% vein on your face, it makes the women look even healthier imo.

Yeah. I was on "faileo" (low fat quasi paleo) and had visible veins plus very low body fat percentage. I was also annoying, depressed and obssesed with food. Bad times.

My husband is the poster child for this phenomenon. We assumed it was because of lower body fat.

I have found several anatomical features that I had no idea that I possessed, and some that had gone missing for a few years to be rediscovered. Recently I discovered that I can look straight down and see my belt buckle. That was cool.

I wouldnt give credit to just paleo. A lot of things come into play when it comes to how vascular a perosn is. I would consider a large portion to your amount of body fat that you have on your body. This may be from your paleo diet but I know plenty of people that are vascular and dont follow paleo but are sitting around 8-10% body fat.

the total body fat percentage is certainly a factor, but i have noticed that my veins become significantly more visible and larger after a high fat meal, however, on the other hand, a relatively high carb meal has the opposite effect (which is somewhat puzzling because insulin is a vasodilator)

I noticed this too. The first time I realized my veins have become much more visible, I was in trying on clothes in a dressing room. Now I like to look at the veins running across my chest and abdomen, and down the insides of my arms.

They look like rivers, and have a beautiful blue-green color.

I think I lost a little fat, but not too much.

Recently, we took our pulses in Biology class at school, and mine was easier to hear than that of my SAD friends. I suppose that may be because my veins are so much closer to my skin than theirs.

But seriously- I never get tired of looking at my network of veins.

I really think it's mostly body fat. I used to have very prominent veins, especially in my arms. Something I always hated. On paleo I have gained weight and now they are usually not visible at all unless I am exercising or overheated (I'm a girl). I'm still lean but not too lean and thin like I was before.

My veins have been noticeably more visible, larger looking, twice in my life.

The first time was in my early 20's. I ate SAD, but my occupation was VERY physical. I did literally hours of lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing daily - of heavy things.

The second time I've noticed the larger veins is - now. My veins have become more visible and are nearing that early 20's level again.

Seems to me like a combo of lower body fat and increased demand on my circulatory system. In that early 20's stage I worked hard and my heart and veins had to work hard to keep up. Now (36 yrs old) I play hard and my heart and veins seem to be getting "buff" again to keep up.

Note: I have no medical training and that could be complete nonsense, just my observation. :)

Myself and my boyfriend we're discussing this the other day, both of us have very prominent veins now, funny thing is I had a low percentage of bodyfat before paleo anyway so it's not explained by that. This is a total wild stab in the dark here but perhaps the volume of blood has increased (due to decreased cell death) and higher nutrient content of food, seriously though that's just a complete guess/theory, not based on any scientific knowledge what so ever!

It's all to do with your percentage of body fat.
