I'm doing an experiment, wanting to rule out low magnesium.
I'm taking jigsaw magnesium orally (4 tab/day=500 mg magnesium).
I'm also spraying magnesium oil (magnesium chloride solution) on my body:
In the morning, I spray 20 sprays on my feet, leaving it on all day
At night, I spray another 20 sprays on my feet, leaving on on overnight, and also:
At night, 40 sprays on my torso, leaving it on over night.
Yesterday and today, my stomache is doing flip flops. I know from past experience, I can handle the jigsaw magnesium by itself, but I'm wondering if maybe I'm doing too much magnesium (combination or oral and transdermal).
I think I may have read somewhere that people can get diarrhea from extended epsom salt baths, which always struck me as odd.
Can magnesium absorbed through the skin cause GI upset?

Seems like overkill. I do 10 sprays a day and no oral magnesium. When i get my bloodwork done, my magnesium levels are in the normal range. I use the oil because it has no effect on my gut.

Well, yeah! I'm not sure of the physical mechanics, but you're getting the magnesium into your system one way or another. Magnesium is frequently used to help with constipation, even to the point where a bath of epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) can help releive constipation.
I'm no expert in magnesium, but it sounds like you're overdoing it dramatically. You also need to check your calium intake. Normally, people don't get enough of both, but they need to be balanced. Look at the periodic table of elements and you'll see they have the same number of outer shell electrons, which means they readily combine with the same molecules. An overabundance of one could crowd out the other. (this is an oversimplication, I know).
I'd back down a bit. If you're worried that you're deficient, you need to find a lab that will test to see if you are deficient in anything or not. Otherwise, you might be overaddressing a problem that you may not have.
