Having recently had a baby and gaining about 10-15 pounds from inactivity and poor diet while on paternity leave, I'm looking to get back to a paleo/primal diet and start trail running again (something I used to do before the baby came along). I'm 6'1" and 190 lbs. at about 21% bodyfat and looking to mainly lean out and enjoy the summer sun via trail running. Here's the schedule I'd like to implement:
Mon: Rest Tue: 2-3 mile fartlek-style mixed interval run Wed: Lift heavy (compound lifts like squat, deadlift, etc.) Thu: 2-3 HIIT or hill repeats Fri: Rest Sat: Lift heavy (compound lifts like squat, deadlift, etc.) Sun: Long trail run (5-10 miles) @ 55-80% MHR
When I've lifted heavy before, I've usually gone with 5x5 and heavy, but am wondering whether to lift a bit lighter with 4x6 or 3x8 so legs recover quicker.
Thoughts? Any trail runners who have done programming like this with success.
