Oh, I forgot to mention; my craving for carbs has dropped, I would say 70%.

I have been on the diet over 2 weeks. I am male, 71 years old. During the summer I was gaining weight too fast. I tried several different diets. With the Paleo I have lost maybe 7 pounds, I feel fantastic. I do my aerobics without fighting with myself. My blood pressure isn't down like I would like, and I am on meds. What blows my mind is that my libido has increased 300%. I am a single man. Now, I gotta go out and meet someone, and I want to go out dancing (and no booze).

Thank you! I always keep a bar of that around, too. It's a really well-priced quality chocolate bar, and two squares really do hit the spot. :)

Great advice Kaz! Personally, I like the 85% Lindt Excellence, $2 a bar at Walmart and it lasts 4 days eating 2 squares per night.

Going paleo is like taking off a tight shoe. That is, once you're over the sugar, gluten and casein withdrawals = P

I think your inspiration needs to come from the reason you are going Paleo...what is it?

Make it 85% chocolate, and don't over-do it.

I had chocolate tonight. Paleo doesn't begin or end with one single item of food. I was Paleo before I ate the chocolate, and I still am.

Clean up your diet now: not after dinner, not first thing tomorrow morning, but right now. And eat the dang chocolate on Valentine's Day, and any day afterward that you truly want it -- but only when you truly want it, not just because you're bored, lonely, sad, or adhering to some tradition or holiday that somehow mandates consumption of sweets. Paleo is something that you're going to be for the rest of your life; if chocolate helps make that journey easier, then take it with you. :)

Another thing to consider -- eat the chocolate, but not the entire bar. Believe me, after you've inhaled 100g of dark choccy, I assure you, it doesn't taste as good as those first one or two bites did. And if you're going to eat chocolate, make sure you're enjoying the good stuff (I reach for Ghirardelli 86%, personally), not some generic Palmer's mockalate.

And to agree with Sherpamelissa, don't plan "binges" or "cheats". Take it one day at a time, one meal at a time, and if you eat something less-than-optimal, don't just throw in the towel and give up. Acknowledge what you ate, dust yourself off, and carry on. You can do this! We're all here for you. Good luck! :)

Lots of great inspiration here: http://paleohacks.com/questions/7058/share-your-paleo-before-and-after#axzz1DhWEG9Tw

Personally, I think that eating chocolate for Valentines and then starting isn't a great idea. The sugar binge before switching to Paleo can make the withdrawal even harder.

Mark's Daily Apple has tons of testimonials, very inspiring. My only advice for a beginner is this: You might be over bread in a week, or it might take a year or two stop craving and binging on it. You might think you can't live without your diet sodas, but one day you realize you have not had one for a month, you just don't care, your addiction is broken. Then you fall off the wagon, but you get back on. It seems like impossible deprivation at first. But after a while it's remarkably easy. You reach a point where you luxuriate in the amazing food you can eat. You're amused by how you were too busy for lunch today so you skipped it, completely comfortable in the knowledge that you'd be just fine until dinner. It's a joy to know that your clothes will fit just fine without any deprivation.

Oh, and if you feel lousy or even awful at some point in the first few weeks, that's just the "Atkins Flu" and it'll pass. Take 3-4 99g potassium pills for the first few weeks, which will help a lot.
