Hi fellow ppl, I have been strictPaleo and following the AI protocol since October and recently noticed my nails are weakened and my teeth are becoming softer and more sensistive. A trip to the dentist has confirmed this when a peice of my tooth broke off mid exam! He said my tooth enamel is weak and whilst i have always had poor teeth, they seem to be getting worse and now my nails which are normally strong, are heading that way too!

Any suggestions? i used to eat 10 almonds a day but since going AI for my leaky gut, ive cut all nuts as well as all other sensisitve foods to follow the AI protocol.

Is there a supplement i could take? Foods you could advise?

More seafood, and leafy greens are not going to help someone with a low thyroid because of a restrictive diet. Good teeth come from good thyroid function, which you will need calories for. Not from micro nutrients when there is a restrictive diet at play. Restrictive diet = shit teeth. Try eating more, and stop dieting, try some super mineral stuff like blackstrap molasses (although it's not going to help if you don't start eating again).

More seafood. More leafy greens. More sunlight.

Strongly suggest that you track your food intake for a week in a program like Fitday, and then check your overall mineral consumption -- I was very surprised when I did this after about 6 months on paleo and was having all sorts of dental issues. I was taking in very little calcium, and solving that problem took care of it. Might not be the same for you, but guessing you're missing some nutrient that you used to eat. Fitday unfortunately won't track your K2 intake, but I'd worry about that too since it regulates how calcium is stored in the body.

I had problems with nails. Was diagnosed with SIBO, started taking my antibiotics, now they are strong as ... nails. Where are your vitamins going? Hannah is right. Something is standing in a way of you absorbing them.

I think that finding the root of the problem is important. If you can figure out where you might be deficient in minerals or vitamins it would be best.

In the mean time Biotin is a great supplement for nail and hair growth/strength.
