Fight for the tooth!

There is a lot of topics discussing teeth at this site, it seems like paleo diet (especially low carb) is very beneficial for teeth - after all, dentist Weston A. Price was one of the earliest adopters of paleo diet to prevent teeth problems.

Unfortunately, I adopted paleo recently (around a year plus couple of months of restricted carbs), after having decades of teeth problems. After visiting dentist today I had mixed report. On one hand, he mentioned that there are multiple traces of decay, but it is not active, so its a good news. On the other hand, he recommended me to remove a tooth.

He explained that the tooth has three roots, one of them is rotting, which causes pocket inflammation and as a result unstable tooth position, so in the future bacteria and food can get there and cause serious problems.

I definitely don't want to lose this tooth as it is in very important location, my chewing abilities will be seriously degraded without it. Dentist also insisted, that removal should happen ASAP as the problems are impending.

What do you say? Is it possible to keep the tooth by continuing low carb paleo? I wonder if due to the diet the rotting of third root may stop or healthy gums will be able to keep my tooth stable even with two remaining roots?

Probably I will have implant or maybe bridge between remaining teeth. But it is if I chose to go with removal which I hope to avoid.

I think the problem is that this root already had nerve removed. I suspect that root canal therapy was the reason it is dying now. The problem I have a lot of such teeth. I allowed them to kill my teeth before I new they can be cured with right diet.

Thanks, I love coconut oil. Even started using mixture of soda and coconut oil instead of tooth paste.

I agree with whoreball- you should get another opinion from another dentist. You would think they could do a root canal and remove the root that is problematic. can you afford to have it removed and have a false implant? Pretty pricey- but then you've got a tooth there and it won't ever rot away.

I would recommend getting another opinion for something that major.
