17 and only lose weight when I seriously restrict... Suggestions?

Stats first. I am 17 years old, 5'3, female, ~135 lbs and I guesstimate myself to be around 30% BF. My waist is ~28 inches. I'm very active (spin, yoga, running, kettle bells, softball, etc. 6x/week). I know I am young, but please trust that I don't have a messed up view of my body or an eating disorder- neither is the case.

So I've been trying to shed fat for a while. I made a post earlier (http://paleohacks.com/questions/178782/cant-lose-weight#axzz2RhyFoCKq). I began a Whole 30 on April 1. I weighed myself on April 20, weighed 141.5 lbs, so that means I hadn't lost any weight (possibly gained fat, or maybe it was carb-water weight). Then, I kept with Whole30 principles and ate under 1000 cals/day and under 50g of carbs and only did yoga a few times + softball, no other exercise, for 6 days. I lost 7 lbs and hit 134.5 lbs. Probably some water-carb weight, but also definitely some fat.

I am SO frustrated that I have to practically starve myself to lose weight, and I really don't want to eat so little. It was miserable, in every way. There has to be another solution. Doctors have all told me I'm fine, blood tests are fine. I really don't want to hear that I don't need to lose fat. Does anyone have any ideas? I want to get to 20-25% BF. Carb cycling? IF? Please be specific with timings and quantities. Thanks in advance!

Additionally, I know all the benefits of eating this way- and I feel better, sleep better, etc. but my question isn't about those things. I'm super grateful to live this way. I've experienced all the benefits except the body fat one, and that's my concern.

well. It isn't concentrated in one area, just spread out. It seems like I need testing to make sure I'm doing what's right for my body. Thank you for the response. I'll post back later when I have more info.

I would LOVE to be 21% BF, even 25%. I guess I need to get a BF testing to be sure, but based on pics I see, I more closely resemble women at 25-30% than I do those in the low 20s. I have a bit of fat on my stomach, but it isn't hanging or jiggling and some abs muscles can be seen from some angles- but not the way it can be on the 20% women. And I do have some fat on my upper back that a string bikini top can make bulge, and my legs and butt aren't shaped like the women around 20% BF. And I weigh ~20 lbs more than friends at similar heights who are probably ~20% BF. I carry my weight really

Thank you for that @greymouser - to me, this post shows a bit of dysmorphia, which is unfortunately so typical in teenaged girls. Well crafted answer

8 hrs sleep minimum! Second semester HS senior, accepted to college, practically no stress. And I take a week off the gym or take a "yoga only" week maybe monthly. I don't mean to argue but that's why I'm just so confused.

And your 6 days a week, lack of sleep, stressed out to the max... yeah, that'll fuck up your hormones to the point you can't lose weight.

I really wish this were true but the majority of my meats are either cold cuts that are measured at the counter and I use a food scale for meats cooked at home. And I do account for cooking oils, as well.

You could have been trending down on April 1, and trending over on April 20th. Weight naturally varies +/- a few percent, I can gain or lose 5 pounds between days.

Also, you're exhibiting some unreasonable expectations for weight loss, 7 pounds in 6 days is dehydration weight. I can drop 10 pounds in a week if I simply stop eating and drinking, all but maybe a pound was fluids weight.

I know I am young, but please trust that I don't have a messed up view of my body or an eating disorder- neither is the case.

When I plug your age, height, weight, and waist size into an BF% estimation calculation, I get 21%. Now, with neck and hip measurements, or even some caliper measurements, we could generate a more accurate estimate -- let's say you're in the 20-25% BF range -- but 21% for a woman is fit. Fit as in, other women are asking themselves what you do to get so tone, and men are unashamedly lusting after you.

You need to rethink what you wrote. Are you sure you have a fairly objective view of your own body? I'm not so sure that you do. I wish you the best of luck in your health pursuits, but please make sure they are sensible!

Congrats! Where are you going to school? I would try pushing yourself at the gym and eating more. This often helps getting over a plateau in weight loss!

Instead of eating less/training more, I'd say eat and work smarter. Both carb cycling and IFing sound like great ideas, but if you're still growing, don't abuse IF. There are tons of theories regarding how and when to cycle carbs, but I find that eating about half of my carbs immediately post-workout and the other half at night works best for me. I can't prescribe specific timing and quantities; that's something best figured out through educated guesses, trial, and error. As far as training smarter goes, are you including sprints/bike sprints in your running and spinning? Move slow a lot but still move fast some. One last thing: if you don't end up losing those last five or however many pounds, so what? Your weight is healthy even if it doesn't fit into the bodies of corpses on catwalks. I've met some, and they seriously lack sex drive. Being horny is about as paleo as it gets.

You're over-eating through under-measuring. Literally measure everything you eat, count it all, you will lose weight, and probably do so with nearly double the calories you claim you can only eat to achieve weight loss.
