What's your take on Green Tea Extract? [Link provided]

I was considering buying this product: (SFW)http://superiornutraceuticals.ecrater.com/p/3534324/green-tea-extract-250-grams

It's a good price, if GTE is worth buying at all.

This is the last on my list of products I'm buying, so don't freak out and tell me I need to buy 20 other things first. ;) I know.

Cheers, Jared

P.S. In a few weeks, maybe a month or so, I'll have 500g of Beta Alanine and 500g of Creatine Monohydrate (or do you recommend Ethyl?) and will be supplementing with 4g each/day, and 2g each on recovery days. As per your recommendation. Just ran out of both of them about 5 days ago and already notice a big difference.

Thanks much. This was exactly what I was looking for (i.e., a fairly legitimate reason to not take it). Buying Beta Alanine and Creatine mainly. This was just priced well and seemed okay.

Interesting. I take it you do regular blood sampling? I'll have to have my blood screened next time I do a physical.

my GI says it can elevate liver enzymes and he's seen it in many patients. I'd monitor your liver enzymes closely when taking it, and don't take it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Just drink green tea ;)

I was a fan until I read about the effects on testosterone and gonadal function in some rat studies (no equivalent human studies have been done):

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21941943

"GTE at relatively high dose may cause impairment of both the morphological and normal functional status of testis in rodents and thus its consumption at relatively high doses raises concern on male reproductive function in spite of its other beneficial effects."

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19330017

"The inhibitory effects of GTE may be explained by the action of its principal component, EGCG, and the presence of a gallate group in its structure seems important for its high efficacy in inhibiting testosterone production."

The amount you get from drinking a few cups a day would hopefully not have the same effect!

Why not actual green tea? That said, the only thing I'd worry about are fluoride levels. So maybe switch to white tea if you're worried about it.

I do 2-3 tea bags of green tea/day sometimes as bulletproof tea. :) (Though I also drink coffee.)

But, truth be told, when you think about it could just prove it's effectiveness because rapid fat loss can also elevate liver enzymes. So maybe it's just a sign it's working ;)

I'd still have my LEs monitored while taking it though just to be on the safe side- it is your health

There's more if you search.
