is there any benefit to steeping cacao nibs instead of eating them?

I've found black tea + cacao nibs steeped + coconut milk makes a good substitute for coffee in the morning. I find the cacao nibs a little hard to eat otherwise. They don't have a nice flavor on their own, and they are gritty and get stuck in your teeth. I'm wondering if I get any of the antioxidant benefit or any benefit whatsoever from pouring boiling water over them, or am I essentially wasting them?
