Bulletproof tea?

Answered on August 19, 2014

It sure sounds weird to me, but I am willing to experiment!

Has anyone tried it, and maybe have some advice? Also, can the combination of tea and fat have the same great effects that coffee and fat produce?

The reason I am asking is because I gave up coffee for lent (Just to see if I could actually do it) and I still would like my buttery goodness in the morning!

Any ideas? Thanks!

I guess tea would be easier to control in terms of being sterile, since you can purchase local loose leaf tea, and things like that. But that is interesting! I will have to look more into that.

I'm really interested in this as well. I am a tea drinker to the core. I would love to hear everyone's take on this.

That's quite likely, especially considering the way that other paleo "gurus" have attempted to gank cultures in the area. (130 year old freezing Sherpas, anyone?)

'bulletproof' tea (aka butter tea, po cha, Tibetan tea,...) was likely the inspiration for bulletproof coffee

I make my own teas, this was elderberries steeped. Not sure if it provided any carbs. I imagine not as it was not sweet and the color just comes from the skins of the berries.

I hope you get some answers ... because I was wondering the exact same thing :)! I loved chai-latte's before I largely gave up on dairy ...I have the feeling that a bulletproof chai could be equally delightful :)

You can blend butter and coconut oil into tea. Seems to be something that everyone overlooks is the freshness factor. The real point of bulletproof coffee is to avoid mycotoxins that develop through certain processing techniques and storage. Not sure how you would identify which teas are more sterile.

Please let me know if you have any ideas on that.

As far as the intermittent 'fasting' aspect of bulletproof, I cannot see how using tea instead of coffee would change a thing.

Edit: ... except for caffeine intake, which I feel is a significant part of the 'fast'.

I switched to BP tea because coffee just doesn't taste good to me right now. This morning I made it with Rooibos Chai and it was super good. Cinnamon tea tastes great, too. I have noticed no difference between coffee and tea.

For a few days I fasted every morning on tea with coconut oil in it. I would only consume those 1-2 Tspoons of coconut oil until about noon. At the end of three days my six pack was bulging, it was quite interesting.

It's awesome. I do bulletproof tea more often than coffee. Typically some fresh yerba mate through a french press, then 1-2 tbl spoons of butter. If I'm feeling it, I'll add coco milk or mct oil, and perhaps a square of dark chocolate or some maca powder.

It not quite as tasty as BP coffee, but it gets the job done.

A lot of people like to make it with green tea. I use white tea and a small scoop of cocoa powder to give it some flavor.
