Is there a difference between talow and tallow shortening?

I ask because I'm looking for tallow, and US Wellness sells "beef tallow shortening"

I asked US Wellness Meats via email, and they responded with: One of the same. USDA requires us to use the language tallow. Don't ask me why. Thank you for the consideration. John Wood

I render tallow from grass-fed beef quite a bit, and it is sort of yellow while rendering, but afterwards when it has cooled, it is white.

we've contacted them before about other things and they're pretty knowledgeable and friendly. Give them a call. Because tallow is so abundant and cheap for them I'd really be surprised if there's anything else in there fat wise, but they could be adding some form of preservative.

I believe US Wellness Meats: http://www.grasslandbeef.com/Detail.bok?no=878 calls their Tallow "Tallow Shortening", but it is Tallow.

You do have to buy about $75 worth of products in one order, but I've heard nothing but good things about this place from the folks I used to hang with that did Zero Carbing.

I could be wrong, but shouldn't grass-fed tallow be somewhat yellow in colour and not "pure white"? Perhaps there is some sort of preservative or artificial colour in there.

fine question. tallow should already be rendered and their description says they prepare this shortening "from tallow"... sounds like you should give them a call and see if they're stepping on your goods.
