Paleo restart symptoms

I returned from a week long vacation a few days ago. While away I ate many non paleo foods such as grain, milk, and suguar and I drank some alcohol. I've learned my lesson and won't do that again - I gained several pounds and felt awful.

My question is, the first time I started paleo, I got a sore throat about a week into it that went away after a day. I have a sore throat today with no other symptoms and this is day 5 of the restart. Anyone else have this symptom upon starting/restarting?

Some people get colds after eating sugar. But everyone reacts differently to bad foods. May I suggest drinking plenty of home-made bone stock for a while, to help your body heal from your mistakes? I've also been eating pretty bad lately, and bone stock helps me get back on track.

I have a sore throat a week into paleo, and I'm pretty sure it's from Candida die off, which I've experienced a few times before. Sore throats are almost always viral. When Candida yeast population die off quickly in the body (in this case most likely from lack of sugar to feed on as well as pH normalization) the viruses that normally hide in the yeast cells are released in large quantities. The body has trouble keeping up with the sudden surge in viruses.

I took several curcumin pills and sore throat is gone. Took about an hour.

Potentially it's drainage from your sinuses dripping down the back of your throat, aka post-nasal drip. This is a common symptom with both sinusitis and acute sinus infections, and I know lots of people say they have it when they have a cold too. Basically, too much mucus and/or swelling in the sinuses and the body has to put the mucus somewhere.

I have had sinusitis most of my life and it's manageable on this diet, but when I eat super inflammatory foods (sugars, grains, etc.) / don't get enough sleep / skip exercising / have a couple too many drinks, the inflammation kicks up right away and I get horrible post-nasal drip and the ensuing sore throat, and sometimes get very acute sinus infections too. I would guess that your body is trying to fight off the inflammation from your SAD binge, and that's what your sore throat is from. Bone broth and other warm/hot liquids will definitely help, and take plenty of fish oil to help fight the inflammation.

EDIT: The post-nasal drip will also give me a stomach ache and some indigestion too, especially the 2nd-3rd day when it's heaviest. I would guess you've probably got some rumbly tumbly going on with the switch back anyway, but the drainage might also be part of the problem.

Turns out that it was a coconut allergy. It seems I can drink coconut milk but cannot use coconut oil without having severe allergic symptoms. I'm definitely back on track and already feeling better. Never going to leave paleo to that extent again. Thanks all for your answers!

What's bone stock all about? Never had it.

I get a sore throat usually about 3 days after I have drank alcohol- any amount. Could be this?

I get little symptoms when restarting, a dry sore throat, ear popping.

Personally, I've chalked this up to a severely decreased mucus production (i.e. less inflammation and histamine response) and that is usually confirmed, as after a week it subsides.

The only time it ever comes back is if my non-Paleo family members get a cold, I get those symptoms again, and they seem to be the extent of my suffering when everyone around me is absolutely miserable.

the only time I've gotten a "sore throat" is when I've eaten Coconut Manna (a cheaper version of Artisana's coconut butter), probably from an allergic reaction. any chance it's not a cold, but a reaction to something you've reintroduced to your diet?

No - never. I rarely get a cold these days but did have a sore throat the other day for no real reason except perhaps where I slept.
