Sweet Potato alternative?

Hello all,

New to the forum and recently started a paleo diet with the PaleoLeap program. So far I really like the food, but I have always hated the taste of sweet potatos. What is their purpose? Can I just use white potatos? If not, are there any good substitutes for sweet potatos?

squash is a fine substitute. Same minerals and lots of vitamin A (if eaten with fats) for half the calories.

Have you tried kohlrabi? It is less starchy and has a mild taste, similar to a cross between an artichoke and a white potato.

Here is my Kohlrabi Fries recipe.

I have indigestion from sweet potatoes. I eat a lot of other root veggies with similar nutrition/glycemic/fiber characteristics: turnips, parsnips, daikon radishes, beets, etc. Some take a little time to learn how to cook, and get used to the taste. I have to peel the outer 1/8th inch off the turnips, or they are too bitter.
