Whilst browsing this site I have noticed a lot of people take daily vitamin and mineral supplements.
Is this something that is advised on a Paleo diet because of the 'restriction' of certain food groups? Or is there a specific vitamin/s that you cant get from solely Paleo food and should supplement?

To answer the original question, the vitamin and mineral prescriptions are NOT just because the Paleo diet limits certain food groups. A Standard American Diet requires over 30,000 calories a day to get adequate amounts of all the micronutrients. The Paleo diet is far more nutritious than nearly any other diet prescription on the planet, but there are still certain micronutrients which are just next to impossible to obtain through food alone. And also, due to modern lifestyles, virtually no one gets enough Vitamin D3, which is why it is recommended as a supplement for everybody, regardless of diet. I anything, people following a Paleo/Primal style diet should have to supplement less that other folks. Little sidenote-I dislike the overuse of the terms Paleo and Primal as diet terms. There are modern, scientifically valid, biochemical reasons behind nearly all of the prescriptions you see bandied about. I don't tell people I'm going to teach them how to eat Paleo or Primal, I tell them I'm going to teach them how to eat Properly to Optimize their performance and fix their Health.
