Should I be taking these supplements? Which vitamin/mineral company is best?

I am a 20-year old woman college cross country and track athlete. After doing a lot of research the supplements that stand out to me most are:

-Magnesium (I keep craving chocolate, and even tahini, which are both high magnesium. I can't keep bingeing on chocolate so I want to address this problem with the magnesium supplement!)

-Cod Liver oil (lots of healthy benefits with vitamins A and D)

-B-Complex

-Chromium

Anyone have any advice/insight with these? Anything I probably isn't important? And how do I know which companies are best to buy from? I got a "Calcium and Magnesium" supplement from a health food store by the company "NOW". Is this a good company?

I want to improve my performance in running...recovery, strength, etc. I was hoping these supplements would help with not only that, but keeping away cravings, too so that I don't binge and feel unsatisfied (this seems to happen to me about once a week on average). Thanks so much for you advice!

Magnesium, while being worthwhile for many people (including myself), is not going to do a thing about your love for chocolate or tahini. You like those things for the same reason every human being does: they taste good. All the supps in the world won't help with that. NOW, I have found, is a great company. I have used and continue to use their products. They've been around a while and many people use them if that matters.

What benefits are you trying to achieve through your supplementation? I may be able to help if you can give me a clear idea what benefits you're looking for.

Physician owned, SupplementBible.com aims to provide consumers with discount supplements and free information about which ones really work.

BTW, I agree with the above that NOW Foods is a good brand FWIW.

Someone can go ahead and correct me here, but if I recall as long as the magnesium ends in -ate its the bioavailable form. Being a mineral I just get the cheap stuff here.

Cod liver oil I would spend the extra bucks for quality control and higher end product. Green Pastures has a good rep here.

B-Complex....pop some liver

Chromium I'm not sure on. I don't supplement it and haven't seen much in the way of reasons to.
