Magnesium supplements + alcohol

Hi guys

I've been doing paleo for about two months. I lost some weight and my skin looks smoother. Also my movements have become too dainty and my grip is weak and I feel a little dizzy. So I took arginine aspartate for two weeks and it did help me in that regard. Now I feel kinda weak again. I want to try supplements instead. Magnesium, right? That's the one I probably need.

Thing is: I drink. Not pass-out drunk every night - more like 3/4 bottles of wine a week. If I drink but want to take supplements, how should I go about it? I have no idea and Google doesn't help. Should I take them a certain number of hours before drinking? Are magnesium supplements and alcohol a dangerous combination? Maybe that is a ridiculous question, maybe not, and one is never too cautious.

Thanks!

PS: also, how much magnesium should I take, and how often? My basic diet is red meat, greens, avocado and nuts (pretty orthodox paleo), I eat a bunch of other things (non-carbs) but that's the bulk of it.

For me, two glasses a day is more than enough to impact my mood negatively.

Two glasses of wine each night - which is not excessive by most standards - comes out to about 3.5 bottles per week (if one bottle equals 4 glasses). Again, how many people consider this excessive? I believe I drink this much (maybe slightly more) and don't experience any weakness or fatigue (although I realize it's causing harm in other ways).

I think I'm very low carb indeed. I cheat slightly sometimes -- a few crackers, a small piece of bread --, but I've been mostly eating meat and avocado and nuts and nothing else the last days. I probably overdid the "low carbs" thing. As for what your bottle says, that's the thing, I can't find any helpful *info* about the possible interactions between supplements and alcohol on the internet, just some vague stuff.

Right. I'm not as moderate a drinker! I wonder if anyone else has any experience with taking supplements and drinking ... certainly quite a few people must have I mean.

I take the NOW brand magnesium citrate, and have wine after dinner every night. Just a glass or two. I've yet to encounter a problem with the combination. I take the magnesium w/my other supplements at dinner. No probs yet.

wait, 3-4 bottles of wine a week? or 3/4 of a bottle a week? if it's the first, cut that shit out, then ask. that's obviously what is making you feel weak...

from the diet you listed, i would say eat wild caught fish from healthy waters at least 3 times a week, and eat fermented foods. also try making broths/stocks whatever you wanna call it. find a farm with good eggs - you can tell by the deep orange yolk. shop around. eat ghee and coconut oil. mix up your meats. find raw grass fed cheese, butter, and milk (then turn the milk into yogurt and kefir). maybe get a juicer and juice vegetables. that will certainly give you energy. grow wheatgrass and juice that.

cut out the excessive alcohol and the supplementation, that's my advice. indulge elsewhere, like with local organic fruits, sweet potatoes, raw honey, etc.

if you really don't want to feel weak, there is no way around not cutting down that alcohol consumption drastically and improving your diet.

You are very low carb then? Weakness could be from other things, have you tried adding a bit more carbs for 2 days to see if it helps? Not like a bowl of honey but maybe some berries or other thing low in glycemic sugar. Either way to answer your question I take a prescription magnesium pill that is 1000mgs a night. It makes you really tired. The bottle says drinking alcohol may cause sleepiness, but it makes u tired anyway.
