How do I increase my vitamin D blood levels?

I have just had my vitamin D levels tested, they are at 74.5 nmol/L which is about 30ng/ ml (the measurement most people use). I want to boost my levels to 50ng/ ml.

I have been taking D3 1000IU daily for many months. So I am thinking of doubling or tripling this dose (2000 or 3000IU). Would this be sufficient?

I live in the UK and its coming around to the colder months, so I will be getting very little from the sun, and I also have semi dark skin, so again very little from the sun.

All advice welcome.
