Fish oil making me throw up

Answered on August 19, 2014

I've started throwing up whenever I take fish oil supplements and it doesn't matter what form it's in (liquid vs. capsule.) I've been trying with as low as 1 g. Also, the brand and type don't seem to make a difference. I've been trying to take it with dinner and with plenty of water. However, I can tolerate fish quite well. Suggestions?

I agree, just eat fish if you don't tolerate the capsules.

You are better off eating fish anyway, quit torturing yourself. I am a firm believer that fish oil supplements are best for those who don't want to eat much fish.

Build up the amount slowly. Always take after food, not an empty stomach, because you need bile release for absorption and that may not happen if you haven't eaten anything else.

Don't drink too much water with it (because the oil will just float on top of the water...up...up...up).

If all else fails, I'd suggest putting the oil in something like a small amount of mashed potato/sweet potato.

You don't have to supplement that. you can get it from real fish. failing that, omega 3's are in abundance in eggs, flax seed oil, grapeseed oil, and alot of other oil forms. Why be so restrictive...if you disagree with the fish oil, switch it up.

Perhaps you are sensitive to amines in the fish oil?
